Saturday, June 6th will be a fun-filled day at 135 East Main Street!
First, the historical society’s research library will be open from 10 am to 2 pm for those who need to do research.
Second, the Cecil County Public Library will hold their “From Fleece to Fiber” event at our log cabin in the backyard from 10 am to noon. This will be a hands-on journey into colonial Maryland as we explore how wool was turned into fabric. Children will learn about the wool-making process, see spinning wheels up close, and participate in hands-on activities. The Bookmobile will be making an appearance too!
Finally, our roomies the Cecil County Arts Council has their annual members exhibit available for viewing!
Don’t miss this fun day!
Parking is not allowed behind our building that day, but it’s available at the courthouse lot next door or on Main Street!

1894 FOOTBALL -- Elkton Doesn't Abound in Excellent Baseball But Holds its Own in Football -- At least that's what the Cecil Democrat reported in 1894, as the sports reporter wrote that the Delaware College would no longer permit its team to play with teams that didn't represent educational institutions. The columnist thought it might be a good idea to organize a team among the "small boys at the public school, which was a "strictly educational institution" to play the College team, which was "seeking so high a level."

What was the greatest football team in Elkton? In an article published in 1954, the Democrat suggested that it was the 1894 team pictured in this photo.
