Chrysler Boyhood Home was built in 1889, in typical nineteenth-century, Midwestern style, constructed of white pine clapboard with a cedar shingle roof. The Chrysler family occupied this house from 1889 until 1908. Many families owned the home until 1952 when Joe Herbert, the Dodge/Plymouth dealer in Ellis, bought the home because it was becoming run down. The Chrysler Corporation purchased it fro

m Herbert and in 1954 the home officially opened as a museum. In 1955, Jack Chrysler, Walter’s son and other Chrysler management came and presented the deed of the home to the city of Ellis. A new building was erected behind the home in 1994 to display personal items Walter Chrysler. Walter’s Grandson, Jack Chrysler Jr., Great-Grandson Frank Rhodes, other Chrysler family members and Chrysler management were in attendance for the grand opening of the new Museum. A 50th Anniversary Celebration took place in 2005 complete with a parade that included over 100 Chrysler products. Many Chrysler family members and Chrysler employees came and participated in the festivities.

Wow! What a weekend The Walter P. Chrysler Boyhood Home and the Ellis High School Alumni showcased a great parade and car show.

Want to say thanks to Everyone from Ellis High School Alumni who worked hard putting this together. Also to John Walz who coordinated the entries for the carshow and all the Chrysler Board members who help at the car show. Thanks to Terry Strohmeyer who checked in all the participates.

Just a reminder that the Walter P. Chrysler Boyhood Home will be having a parade and car show on May 23 coinciding with the Ellis High School Alumni (KS) 125th Celebration. The parade begins at 10am and the car show begins at 11am. The VFW will be selling their delicious locally made German Sausages. Verlin Honas will be providing music all day. So plan on coming to Chrysler Park and see some great looking cars, eat lunch and listen to some good music.

Don't forget about the Walter P. Chrysler Boyhood Home's parade and "Show and Shine" Car Show. Being held in conjunction with the 125 Anniversary of the EHS Alumni. Will be held May 23, 2026. The flag is up and the flowers are out already for another tourist season at the Walter P. Chrysler Boyhood Home and Museum. They will be open beginning tomorrow May 1, 10am-4pm. Come by and learn about one of the greatest automobiles makers of the 20th century.

The Walter P. Chrysler Boyhood Home & Museum will be opening on May 1st at 10am. They are open Wednesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm through October.

Board member Rodney Stromeyer locked himself in the museum and wouldn't let anyone in. When the doors were finally opened he revealed he had transformed the 1924 Chrysler into a time machine and was setting out to go back and find Walter Chrysler.
