Attention!!!
We have a couple big announcements to make this weekend. This time around, it’s not a piece of equipment that we have received! These two items will require serve a different purpose for SARHM….
For now we will start with the biggest one….
We are excited to announce the acquisition of the former San Antonio & Aransas Pass depot from Pettus, TX!!! This building was purchased and moved off property many years ago. The depot was split in half and the freight section was incorporated into a private resident. The passenger waiting room and agents office were left in a field and remain there to this day. The remains of depot are not in the greatest condition. It is going to require considerable effort to restore, however to move the depot, we are planning on disabling the structure and transporting it to Elmendorf.
“So what are your plans with it?”
Well, it is our intention to transport the depot, in its disassembled state, to Elmendorf, where it can be painstakingly reconstructed, allowing for boards to be replaced where necessary. We will be working with Witte Construction Co. on this project as they have extensive experience with old, historical structures. Please keep in mind when you look at the photos, it’s in rough shape. Many old home are turned around from looking like this and are beautiful places now. It’s just going to take time and money.
As for what we intend to do with it, it is our intention to use the as a replacement for the old SA&AP depot that once served Elmendorf, TX over 80 years ago. This will fulfill another of our promises to the City of Elmendorf that we made starting in 2008. We will achieve two goals in one project, preserving a piece of the SA&AP and returning a SA&AP depot to Elmendorf!
If you would like to be a part of the projects we post, don’t hesitate, join today! We have so much more coming in the months ahead!
