One of the greatest gifts of being an artist is developing an “artist’s eye”, says Betsy Gilpin. It changes the way you see the world. Everyday scenes become filled with beauty, light, color, and possibility, inspiring thoughts of how they might be expressed in a painting. I’ve created countless paintings in my imagination that have never made it to paper, and because of that, I never run out of inspiration.
Betsy has been a dedicated contributor to the San Dieguito Art Guild for many years. She has been an active member of the Guild. She served as Fundraising Chair for three years and continues to generously volunteer her time at Off Track Gallery in a variety of ways. Her enthusiasm, generosity, and commitment to our organization have made a lasting impact, and we’re delighted to welcome her as our new Guild President. We’re fortunate to have her leadership as we look to the future.

An oil painting by Barbara Davies, “Boathouse,” won Best in Show in September. Capturing a serene, panoramic view of a rural landscape, the painting strikes the viewer with its stunning color harmony. Through soft, expressive brushwork, Barbara beautifully captures the fleeting, golden light, giving the entire landscape a quiet, emotional resonance. The small, white boathouse provides an excellent sense of scale. Congratulations, Barbara Barbara Davies. A very well-deserved award.
