Sigh... Not all privy's contain loads of goodies.. GPR showed a depth of 12ft... Super sandy feild at 6ft I found the wood liner..probed and probed and didn't hit anything so I deemed it not worth opening up wider to prevent possibility of collapse on me bent over and ending me... Very lil glass and plate.. Pipe bowl was the only thing worth mentioning..

Found a lil hot spot of bullets in a 20x20 area... Home owner was happy to get them..

Walking on Thin Ice – Neuse River circa 1895

No need for an “ice-breaker” with this one! As temperatures continue to drop this week, we thought this was the perfect photo to share for our weekly “What’s in the Attic with Jim?”

You’re looking at a few homes along the 400 block of East Front Street from the perspective of the frozen Neuse River in 1895. In the foreground you can see some brave New Bernians standing on the ice and sitting along the river bank. The two prominent homes pictured are the Nelson House (left, built ca. 1870) and the Leech-Bryan House (right, built ca. 1760). The Nelson House was purchased by the Shriners in 1920 and eventually demolished to construct the Sudan Temple in 1956, which stands there today. The Leech-Bryan House was possibly the oldest house in New Bern at the time of its destruction in 1964 and converted to a parking lot. We don’t love it, but it’s the cold, hard truth!

Bundle up friends, and we will see you again next week “from the attic!”
