The 200 members of Chicago based Koreshan Unity acquired 320 acres of land in 1894 and created their own community over the next few years. They eventually acquired nearly 7,500 acres of land, had the only store in Estero Florida and brought education, culture, music and drama to the Southwest Florida frontier. The settlement flourished until the death of their leader, Cyrus R. In 1961 the remaining few members donated 305 acres of land to the State of Florida for historic preservation. Eleven buildings remain in the historic settlement and give a glimpse of what life was like here in the early 1900's.

🌿 Please join us in welcoming Park Manager Matt Kruse and Rangers Dual and Tara to Koreshan State Park!

👋 Matt has worked for Florida’s park services since 1999. He joins us from Oscar Scherer State Park, where he served as park manager for five years. He’s eager to bring his experience to Koreshan State Park, Estero Bay Preserve and Mound Key. When he’s off the clock, you might find him hiking, kayaking or watching wildlife. 🛶

🔥 Dual is a Florida native who grew up near the state’s lakes and beautiful springs. He most recently served as a PSS Volunteer Manager at Delnor-Wiggins Beach State Park and completed his studies in environmental science and business at Florida State. He looks forward to learning more about prescribed fire and resource management. Dual also enjoys fishing, spending time outdoors and playing board games. 🎣

🐚 Tara is a Naples native who recently returned to the area after 10 years in Hawai’i and time spent traveling. She’s new to the park service and excited to learn from her peers and to play a role in helping the environment. In her free time, Tara enjoys collecting shells for jewelry making, spending time in the ocean, and exploring nature. 🌊

Friends of Koreshan is gearing up for our big winter living history celebration, and we’re building our wardrobe to bring the past to life.

We’re looking for:

Vintage/period-style clothing and accessories

Thrifted pieces that can be transformed into historical costumes

Volunteers who want to help plan, sew, style, and have some fun along the way

🏡🌿 What makes a place feel like home?This , we’re celebrating the spaces that help people and wildlife thrive.

Observed on the first Monday of October, World Habitat Day is a chance to reflect on our communities and the importance of safe, sustainable places to live. State parks are part of that picture: they protect natural habitats, give us room to explore and recharge, and preserve stories that connect us to where we live.

At Koreshan State Park, the Estero River, surrounding natural areas, and historic settlement offer a place to experience both nature and history. 🛶🌳

🚚 **Food trucks wanted for Concerts at Koreshan!** 🎶

Join us at Koreshan State Park for an evening of live music, community, and great food! We’re looking for food vendors for **Saturday, January 9, and Saturday, March 6, 2027**.
Food truck service runs **6:00–9:00 PM**,
with concerts from **7:00–9:00 PM**.

Whether you’re a new food truck or an established business, we’d love to hear from you! It’s a great way to get your business name out there, and we’ll promote participating vendors on our social media page. 📣

🌟 **Meet Volunteer Rob!** 🌟

Rob is a full-time RV traveler who volunteers at state parks across Florida, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back to Koreshan State Park for his **second year**! 🚐🌴

You might find Rob helping at the ranger station, working out in the field, or keeping things looking great from the seat of a mower. Wherever he’s needed, he shows up with dedication and a willingness to help. 💚

Volunteers are an important part of state parks. They lend a hand with everyday tasks that help care for these special places and make visits better for everyone. Rob, thank you for all you bring to Koreshan—and thank you to ALL our volunteers for the time and care you give! 👏

Florida State Parks are a part of the lands that belong to everyone this National Public Lands Day! 🌿

National Public Lands Day is a reminder that parks and other public spaces give us room to explore, learn, and connect with nature—and that caring for them is a shared responsibility. At Koreshan State Park, every visit is a chance to enjoy the beauty of these lands and help protect them for the people who come after us.

Volunteers play an important part in that care. Their work removing litter and debris and helping maintain healthy trails keeps the park welcoming for visitors and supports the natural spaces we all enjoy. 🥾💚

Whether you’re taking a walk, learning something new, or simply spending time outdoors, please help care for the park by leaving no trace and disposing of litter properly. Together, we can keep our public lands healthy and enjoyable for everyone.

🌿 Welcome to Koreshan State Park, Silas Locke! 🌿

Silas is one of our two newest Florida Conservation Corps Project A.N.T. members! They recently graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Geology. 🎓🪨

Silas has a special love for ferns and enjoys spending their free time exploring Big Cypress National Preserve. After their term of service, they plan to continue their education by pursuing a master’s degree. 🌱📚

We’re excited to have Silas on the team and look forward to the positive impact they’ll make at the park! 💚
