It's one of the most anticipated events of the year in Rocky Mountain National Park- Trail Ridge Road is open for the summer season!

Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved highway in the United States, topping out at Rock Cut at 12,183' above sea level. It is simply not feasible to keep it open in the winter due to drifting snow and howling winds- and be aware that the road may close periodically over the summer due to adverse weather conditions. Yes, it is sometimes in the 70's in Estes Park and Grand Lake but snowing above tree line! Trail Ridge Road offers a unique look at all of the varying ecosystems preserved within Rocky's borders- the gentle meadows of the montane, the deep forests of the subalpine, and the hardy flora, fauna and breathtaking views of the alpine.

Between 9am and 2pm, visitors will need a Timed Entry reservation to access Trail Ridge Road. If you were unable to snag a reservation during that time frame, fear not! As long as you enter the park before 9am or after 2pm, all you need is your park pass to enter the park.

For the most recent updates on the road statue, call the Trail Ridge Road status line at 970-586-1222.

"Hidden Goodness"
A tiny tarn with an awe-inspiring view lies tucked in the fold of a mountain at tree line. It is far off the beaten path, unknown and unseen. Yet it is one of those special places, holding for us all, a reminder of this world's deep goodness.

🥾🥾🥾

This is one of the new images on display in the gallery for the summer. And guess what? Our new images are HERE and we're so excited!

"Hidden Goodness" was also chosen to be the cover of the 2026-2027 edition of Vacationland, a fantastic visitor guide that includes lists of shops, restaurants, accommodations, trails and maps of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Those are available for free at the Estes Park Visitor Center, as well as many businesses and hotels in town.

Have you ever seen anything like this- when rain appears to be falling from a cloud, but it never quite reaches the ground? This is a weather phenomenon known as Virga rain (also known as a dry storm). The rain will evaporate as it falls, and is a fairly common thing to see in warm and dry areas- like Rocky Mountain National Park!

Estes Park currently has 6 inches of snow, and it is still falling quite heavily! This is incredibly welcome weather- we need all of the moisture we can get after an incredibly dry winter.

The gallery will be closed today (May 5) for inclement weather- many of our fellow businesses, the library, and the school district are closed as well. We look forward to reopening tomorrow!

Just a quick reminder that the gallery will have a delayed opening tomorrow, Saturday May 2 due to the annual Duck Race! I (Rachel) am playing with one of the music groups providing entertainment, and Erik and Nancy have prior commitments and are unable to cover me that morning. I will plan to be back to the gallery between noon and 1 pm (it will depend on how wild it is trying to get from the start line at Performance Park back over to the gallery!).

You can still adopt ducks/donate to a local organization up until 12:55 p.m. MT- and you are entered to win fabulous prizes, too! We at Images of RMNP are proud to support fundraising efforts for local organizations, and three lucky ducks will win a signed copy of Erik's book "Wild Light: A Celebration of Rocky Mountain National Park."
