White Lotus Gallery

White Lotus Gallery Asian Fine Arts - Antique Japanese Furniture - Conservation Framing White Lotus Gallery opened in 1992 and, from its inception, has focused on art from Asia.

Initially, the inventory was dominated by the contemporary Japanese prints collected by founding partner, Dick Easley. The fine caliber of this collection can be illustrated by names such as Tajima Hiroyuki and Tanaka Ryohei. Their works, along with prints by other renowned artists like Yoshida Hiroshi, Kawase Hasui and Sekino Jun'ichiro, have been well sought after by prestigious institutions aro

und the world. Together with 19th century Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, they compose an integral part of the gallery’s extensive collection. From the beginning, the dream of gallery director, Dr. Hue-Ping Lin, was to provide a venue in the United States for China's contemporary artists, particularly printmakers. As a result, White Lotus Gallery has assembled one of the largest collections of contemporary Chinese prints in the country. After moving to its current location in the historic Smeede Hotel in downtown Eugene, White Lotus Gallery has expanded its collection with antique Japanese furniture, 15th century Vietnamese ceramics and Asian textiles. The space has also provided opportunities to present works by Northwest artists. They range from paintings, prints and photography to Shibori-dyed silk scarves and jewelry. White Lotus Gallery is located at 767 Willamette Street and is open between 10 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. For further information, please contact the gallery at 541-345-3276 or visit https://www.wlotus.com.

The sun’s been shinin’, and we feel ready for summer! With only two weeks left for “One Flower, One World,” we’re relishing getting to come to work surrounded by beautiful florals and then leaving the gallery to find abundant blooms at home and in our neighborhoods. 🌼🌷🌻 The exhibition is on display through June 6, and we wish you a fabulous holiday weekend!

On May 7, Dr. Janice Katz, Roger L. Weston Curator of Japanese Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, gave a talk about the exhibition "Emerging from Darkness: Prints by Hamanishi Katsunori." She started with Mr. Hamanishi's landmark Four Seasons prints and provided more insight into the artist's background and creative process. We hope you'll enjoy this informative talk! 🤩

We have the rare treat of having two pieces of art--both being photographs to boot--depicting the same subject matter in the current exhibition, "One Flower, One World." 🤩

We shared Gary Tepfer's luscious rain-kissed calla lily in April. Rich Bergeman, on the other hand, captured an ethereal calla in which each fiber in the flower and the leaves is accentuated. We can easily recall the feeling of caressing a calla lily by looking at his photograph.

Come see both photographs of calla lilies during gallery hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Last but not least, we wish an early "Happy Mother's Day!" to all maternal figures who provide tender loving care! We appreciate you! 💕

Our dear friend Professor Esther Jacobson-Tepfer was recently featured in an OregonNews article, and we applaud the author's detailing of Professor Jacobson-Tepfer's many contributions to academia and beyond. Gary Tepfer, her husband, has supported her work with his photography, and we have been privileged to exhibit many of these photographs. We hope you'll enjoy reading about the impact Professor Jacobson-Tepfer's research has made!

We're having an exciting week of art announcements. 🥳 Renowned mezzotint artist Hamanishi Katsunori has an exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago from April 8 to June 22! We wish we could visit the show because there are gems like the Viva Chicago series. Luckily, we have an extensive collection of Mr. Hamanishi's prints and just received some new prints in April. Please keep an eye out for them on our website soon!

Featuring a number of gifts from the artist as well as longtime collectors over the last 30 years, this presentation includes several of the artist's celebrated mezzotints—earlier, smaller-format works done without color, as well as more recent larger work that boast many hues.

After almost a few weeks away, we have been enjoying settling back into our routines and seeing familiar faces in the gallery. Our floral themed exhibition, 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓, 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅, is on display through June 6. It includes several woodblock prints by Sekino Jun'ichiro, and seeing them reminds us of a surprise encounter with Sekino's "Hakone: Mt. Fuji Over the Lake" in a soba restaurant in Tokyo! 🗻🍜

The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and we look forward to seeing you!

Many of our friends and customers remember and still talk about the NUNO exhibition we had in 2023. The new David Geffen Galleries at LA County Museum of Art have recently opened and feature window treatment designed by Reiko Sudo, the co-founder and design director of NUNO. From September 20, 2026, to March 7, 2027, Textile Alchemy: The Art of Reiko Sudo and NUNO will also be on display in Resnick Pavilion. If you're in the area, be sure to pay a visit! And congratulations to NUNO and Ms. Reiko Sudo!

We've been enjoying the sights and sounds of spring, from blossoms and new leaves to fluttering butterflies and buzzing bees. For the next few weeks, we will be out of town for a work trip (April 8 - April 28) and look forward to returning to our beautiful city for the remainder of the season. In the meantime, we wish you wellness and joy!
