One of the early cabins at Times Beach.

When Times Beach was founded in 1925 by the St. Louis Star-Times newspaper, people could buy a 20 by 100 ft lot for $67.50 included with a 6 month newspaper subscription.

There were hundreds of these cabins, most of which survived until the town was destroyed in December 1982.

December 6, 1982 - The Meramec River crested at over 40 feet. At least 10,000 homes had been destroyed in St. Louis County alone. Times Beach was flooded and a large portion of Pacific, shown here, was underwater. I-44 was closed at Rte 141. For Times Beach, the worst was still to come. The photo shows the flood at Pacific.

Flood in Times Beach & Eureka, August 1957

The last picture is of the Bald Pate Bridge in Eureka’s Jefferson County side. It was located over the Meramec River at (38.4851840, -90.6332340) from 1901 to the 1980’s.

November 30, 1982 - Residents looked on as technicians in "moon suits" began taking soil samples in Times Beach. The town was listed as one of 41 sites in Missouri possibly contaminated by dioxin. The streets were sprayed with dioxin-contaminated waste oil to keep the dust down in the summer of 1972.
