HELP NEEDED!

We are looking for older photos (pre-2000s) of cemeteries from the Fairchild area. Over the years, it is not uncommon for markers and other decorative features to be moved or disappear all together for many reasons. We want to return some of these to their original locations.

Your family's older photos of a past funeral or of the gravesites of kin can include vital clues to help us confirm where monument bases may be buried or markers should be reset. It would be especially cool to find a photo of what the gated entrance to Fairchild Cemetery once looked like.

If you have such photos, please send them our direction or stop by the History Center so we can scan them. And your photos don't need to be that old to potentially include a clue! So, if you've family from the Fairchild area, please add this to your "to do" list and pass along this request. Thanks!

On Saturday, September 26th, the plan is to meet at the Town of Cleveland Cemetery on Town Hall Road west of Fairchild to do some cemetery marker repair and resetting. There is quite a bit that needs to be done, so initial priority will be to level anything leaning.

If interested, meet up around 10 AM. Lifting, bending, shoveling, etc. involved. Bring some gloves, your boots, something to drink, and never hurts to have an extra shovel.

We're a tad late but our Summer 2026 newsletter is going to the printer tomorrow and will be in the mail to members next week.

This issue explores the history of 201 Farmer Street in downtown Fairchild, which long-time area residents fondly remember as "Erdman's Store." This is also the only building in the Village of Fairchild that is on the National Register of Historic Places. We are very excited that Gardell Rohrer recently acquired the property with plans to fully restore the building, so we wanted to celebrate this by sharing the building's history.

Below is one of the photos that we didn't have room for in the newsletter. It is from between 1909-1920 when Ed Emanuel (that is him behind the bar) operated the building as a saloon prior to Prohibition. Thank you to Lois Papke, granddaughter of Mr. Emanuel, for sharing some photos for our article.

We love Fairchild Pond and the Sportsmen’s Club has invested a lot time and dollars in maintaining this community treasure. Did you know that the Pond, Schoolhouse Creek, Rock Dam Lake, and C**n Fork are all in the Eau Claire River Watershed? We thought some folks might be interested in this survey….
