This spring, Fairfield University faculty, staff, students, and community members came together for a unique opportunity to work with two artists, Maria De Los Angeles and Lizzy Rockwell, during a Flag-Making Workshop & Justice Quilting Bee!

Participants created miniature flags representing their heritage, some of which were incorporated into Maria De Los Angeles’s "Freedom is Not Free?", featured in the 2026 exhibition "For Which It Stands…." They also contributed quilt squares to Lizzy Rockwell’s "The Liberty and Justice Quilt."

“For Which It Stands…” is free and open to the public in the Walsh and Bellarmine Hall Galleries, through July 25.

Through a partnership with local artist Lizzy Rockwell and The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University, the Fairfield University Art Museum worked with youth from Bridgeport’s Juvenile Detention and Residential Center to create quilt pieces inspired by their experiences and the "Stitching Time: The Social Justice Collaboration Quilts Project" and "Give Me Life: CPA Prison Arts Program" exhibitions. Each piece captures personal experiences and the power of storytelling through art.
