A big thank you to Mr. Richard Stachel, who crafted a fine book case for our collection of FHS yearbooks.

We were able to officially say thank you on Memorial Day, while he and his wife Patricia hosted at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel.

They are indeed steadfast friends of the FAHS.

The Fairview Cemetery Chapel

In the care of the Fairview Area Historical Society since 1976, it will be open Memorial Day following the American Legion parade tomorrow from 11am to 1:30 pm.

The Chapel was built in 1902 by T. Wood Sterrett. It offered shelter for families during services held in poor weather. It also provided storage for deceased loved ones during the winter months when the ground was too hard for a burial.

It’s been used for weddings and funerals.

We will have two cemetery guides available to visitors: A Revolutionary War Veterans guide AND a War of 1812 Veterans guide. Both will have pictures to help you spot the headstones and a map with locations drawn.

They are free, donations are appreciated. America250PA Erie CountyThomas BendureFairview American Legion Post 742America250PA

Thank you Erie News Now and Elspeth Mizner for visiting the Sturgeon House today.

We are collecting items for the Founders Time Capsule throughout 2026.

The time capsule is possible thanks to support of the Burton Quinn Scott .

We will be open Memorial Day from 10 - 2pm.

Bring notes, cards, pictures, objects, or items, which are family and community friendly. We’re keeping it local, so stick to personal and family oriented or Fairview and Erie County focused.

The Fairview Area Historical Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary alongside the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday with a series of events focused on history.
