Every year at Audie Murphy Day, one of the most meaningful traditions begins before the parade and Veterans Ceremony

Veterans and service members arrive early, where they are welcomed by community volunteers and treated to a complimentary breakfast in their honor. As they register, each receives an Audie Murphy Day commemorative baseball cap and is invited to sign that year's Audie Murphy portrait mat. Over time, those signatures surround the portrait, creating a powerful tribute to the men and women who have served our nation.

Each completed portrait and signature mat is framed and displayed in the Farmersville Heritage Museum, preserving the names, stories, and legacy of those we honored that year. Together, they have become a remarkable visual history of service, sacrifice, and community gratitude.

During the parade, veterans and service members ride through downtown wearing their matching caps as the crowd stands, waves, and applauds their service. It is a moment of respect, and appreciation that reminds us why this tradition matters.

Audie Murphy Day is more than an event. It is a community’s promise that service will be remembered, sacrifices will be honored, and stories will be preserved for future generations.

Veterans and service members, this is your day. Join us, add your signature to history, and become part of the enduring legacy of Audie Murphy Day.
