This week, we welcome “Journey to Freedom” — the Harriet Tubman statue, arriving with the FreedomWalk2026 pilgrimage.

The public can see the statue as it travels through our region, with three community stops:

The statue will be present as part of the evening gathering.

Friday, June 19
2–5 p.m.

View the statue, tour the Meetinghouse, and learn more about the local connections to Underground Railroad history.
A Strawberry Social will follow from 5–7 p.m. at Farmington Friends Meeting

Saturday, June 20
1-9 p.m.
Rochester International Jazz Festival
The statue will be available for viewing during festival activities at 285 E. Main St., Rochester.

Women’s Rights NHP welcomes back Dr. Judith Wellman, Laura Ladd Bierman, and the 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse Museum for a very special partnership program during Convention Days 2026!

On Friday, July 17 from 3pm – 4pm, gather in the historic Wesleyan Chapel for: “The Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments: A Joint Reading,” in partnership with the 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse Museum.

This program will be chaired by Laura Ladd Bierman (Women’s Rights Alliance of NYS) with a historical introduction by Judith Wellman (author of The Road to Seneca Falls and Executive Director of the 1816 Meetinghouse Museum). Experience two foundational documents read side-by-side by members of the Women’s Rights Alliance of NYS, Canandaigua Suffragists, Geneva League of Women Voters, and 1816 Meetinghouse Museum. Audience-generated questions and a brief panel discussion with historians Bierman and Wellman will conclude the program.

Visitors can learn more about the history and summer programs offered by the 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse Museum by visiting the Community Expo, hosted at the Visitor Center from 10am – 4pm.

Meet General Gordon Granger
Wayne County Native. Union General. Juneteenth Messenger.

Born in Joy, a hamlet in Sodus in neighboring Wayne County, Gordon Granger went on to serve as a Union general during the Civil War.

On June 19, 1865, he arrived in Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3, announcing that enslaved people were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed.

That day became known as , now celebrated across the nation as a commemoration of freedom and emancipation.

On Juneteenth, visitors can meet General Gordon Granger through a special living-history presentation as part of our celebration.

As we welcome modern-day Freedom Walkers retracing Underground Railroad routes, we also remember the individuals whose actions helped turn the promise of freedom into reality.

Meet Austin Steward
Freedom Seeker. Abolitionist. Entrepreneur.

Long before the Civil War, Austin Steward's life embodied the courage and determination celebrated by FreedomWalk2026.

Born into slavery in Virginia in 1793, Steward eventually secured his freedom and settled in western New York. He became a successful businessman, abolitionist, and author, and spent time in Farmington among the Quaker community that would become deeply involved in antislavery efforts.

Steward later published one of the earliest autobiographies written by a formerly enslaved person, sharing his experiences and advocating for freedom and equality.

On Juneteenth, visitors to the 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse Museum will be able to meet Austin Steward through a special living-history presentation as part of our FreedomWalk2026 celebration. (Check out the full schedule at https://www.facebook.com/share/1BLioXjrLS/)

The 1816 Farmington Quaker Meetinghouse Museum participated in the Spring Gathering of the Farmington-Scipio Regional Meeting of Friends this weekend at Watson Woods in Painted Post.

Lyle Jenks shared the story of the 1816 Meetinghouse through an interactive display and conversation with Friends from across Western New York.
