Did you know that Dwight Mission was the sole Native American mission school in Arkansas? It was the first Cherokee mission west of the Mississippi River. Dwight Mission historic records focus on the hardships experienced by missionaries Cephas Washburn and Alfred Finney.
Dr. Emily Beahm, WRI Research Station archeologist, will shed light on Cherokee childrens’ daily life in the mission school, their parents, and the communities along the central Arkansas River Valley in the early nineteenth century.

Hello! The last meeting of the year for the Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will be this Wednesday, December 11 at 7 pm. Dr. Jessica Kowalski will be discussing 2024 UAF station projects, highlighting the hard work that volunteers and students have put into curation/legacy collections. See you there & Happy Holidays!

This Saturday! Will be a great event!

Next Saturday (October 19th)!!! Have you ever wanted to be an archeologist? On October 19th park interpreters and Survey archeologists will give three unique guided tours that demystify the process of how archeology is done. The tours will happen at 9:45 am, 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm. Space is limited, so please call Plum Bayou Mounds Archeological State Park at 501-961-9442 to sign up. There will also be free interactive activities available. We can't wait to see you there!

Speaking of Bryce (our upcoming Ko-ko-ci speaker).....we have a belated congratulations to make! Bryce successfully defended his masters thesis in May of 2024. Bryce incorporated 3D models of 19th century stoneware vessels & Cane Hill College into a digital storytelling project. Keep a look out for the links to go live soon!

Hi everyone! Our first meeting of the Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society for the fall semester will take place next Wednesday, September 11th. Bryce Drachenberg will be talking about public archeology, 3D modeling, and Cane Hill. Please join us at 7 pm for the meeting! All are welcome. PS- We will be voting in officers. If you are interested in public archeology service, please consider running for a position!

Please join us tomorrow Wednesday, April 10, for the monthly chapter meeting of the Ko-ko-ci. We have a special guest speaker, Dr. Jason Kennedy. Dr. Kennedy will be discussing his work in Bolivia. The talk is at 7 pm at the Coordinating Office of the Arkansas Archeological Survey.
