Did you know that Dwight Mission was the sole Native American mission school in Arkansas? It was the first Cherokee mission west of the Mississippi River. Dwight Mission historic records focus on the hardships experienced by missionaries Cephas Washburn and Alfred Finney.
Dr. Emily Beahm, WRI Research Station archeologist, will shed light on Cherokee childrens’ daily life in the mission school, their parents, and the communities along the central Arkansas River Valley in the early nineteenth century.
