Of designer Harvey Ellis’s contributions during his brief period at Gustav Stickley’s Craftsman Workshops, none have become as iconic and lasting as his decorative inlay designs. Today is National Skilled Trades Day, and this historic photo from the L. & J.G. Stickley factory in Fayetteville, NY is a reminder that great design is only possible because of great skill. From precise joinery to careful finishing, the craftspeople in this shop built furniture meant to last—and their workmanship still shapes what we preserve and share today. If you have a skilled trade in your family (woodworking, carpentry, upholstery, finishing, metalwork, and more), we’d love for you to give them a shout-out in the comments.

THIS SUNDAY, MAY 3, join local architecture historian and great tour guide, Sam Gruber, for the first of three walking tours of Southside neighborhoods, architecture, and history. These tours are presented by the Preservation Association of CNY. Not too much Arts & Crafts here (a few houses might qualify), but lots of interesting architecture. history, and new community developments.

There is a soul to the Southside that you can’t find anywhere else in the region and this Spring, PACNY is proud to announce we are opening the doors to the history, architecture, development, and stories of Syracuse’s Southside with a brand-new 3-part walking tour series.
Whether you are a lifelong Syracuse resident or visiting from the Greater Central New York region, you won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to explore the vibrant heritage of one of our city’s most storied neighborhoods.
It’s been over two decades since a tour of this scale has focused on these streets, and it’s time to give this community the spotlight it deserves.
We are so proud to be partnering with local staples to make this happen—because the Southside’s heritage belongs to everyone.

🗓️ Save the Dates and clear your calendars for this three-part journey! Each date features a completely different section of the neighborhood and you can register for one, two, or all dates:
Part 1: Sunday, May 3rd / The South Salina Historic District
Part 2: Sunday, May 17th / W. Colvin - Creekwalk
Part 3: Sunday, May 24th / Village of Danforth / Brighton

📢 Full details and registration links are dropping soon so make sure you’re following us here or signed up for the PACNY newsletter to get first dibs on tickets!.

We have extended our hours for the summer! We look forward to seeing you soon.

On , this month’s archival spotlight takes us back to Gustav Stickley, who used The Craftsman to champion ideas that shaped both design and daily living. In this issue, he reflects on the national impact of something beautifully simple: planting trees.

Stickley argues that thoughtful cultivation—by both city dwellers and farmers—strengthens communities, preserves natural resources, and elevates the landscape for generations. It’s a reminder that good design isn’t just about objects; it’s about stewardship, intention, and the way we shape the world around us.

The latest Stickley Blog is live, and for April we’re exploring the art of form and function through one of our most iconic categories: bookcases. From architectural silhouettes to thoughtful material contrasts, these pieces show how intentional design can shape the character of a room.

Featured here is the Hudson Valley Bookcase, defined by its tall arced profile and striking interplay of tones. It’s a perfect example of how Stickley craftsmanship turns storage into a sculptural element—beautiful, purposeful, and designed to elevate the spaces you live in.

In addition to the seating, dining, and bedroom furnishings that every home needs, Stickley has been a source for beautifully crafted shelving from its earliest days. Both decorative and practical, in styles that range from timeless Mission to our newest collections, Stickley bookcases and etageres....

🎉🥳 Today we celebrate 19 years of The Stickley Museum—and the birthday of one of our founders, Alfred Audi!

Located in the original Stickley factory (where furniture was crafted from 1900–1985), our museum brings over a century of design history to life.

Explore A Well Crafted Legacy, our signature exhibition highlighting the iconic works of Gustav Stickley and L. & J.G. Stickley from the Arts and Crafts era. You’ll also find timeless pieces from the Cherry Valley collection and many more treasures from Stickley’s 100+ year journey.

What began as a personal collection of early American antiques by Leopold & Louise Stickley has grown into a world-class museum, brought to life by Alfred and Aminy Audi. After years of passion and preparation, we opened our doors in April 2007—and we’ve been honoring our legacy ever since.

This anniversary is extra special as we also honor 126 years of L. & J.G. Stickley manufacturing
