Rokeby Museum's Sheep & Wool Day is this Saturday, June 6th, 12:00 - 3:00!

Don't miss our table with A Revolutionary Press, where John Vincent will show visitors how to make their own letterpress print. All prints will use paper made from linen and cotton fabric deaccessioned from the Museum's collection. This year's print will feature a quote and illustration by Rachael Robinson Elmer (1878-1919).

Visitors will also have the opportunity to make a sheet of paper from the same pulped material to be used later by the Press for another Rokeby-related print. Other Revolutionary Press prints will be available for sale in our gift shop.

This Memorial Day, Rokeby Museum highlights the life of Robinson in-law William B. Stevens, "Cousin Willie." Pictured here in his "Federal Blues," William made the remarkable choice of enlisting in the Union army at the start of the Civil War, despite the disapproval of his fellow Quakers. Though William considered it his duty to God and his country, he was excommunicated from the Society for his actions.

While his role was noncombative, William's time in the service was difficult. He participated in the disastrous Battle of Fredericksburg, fell ill more than once, and was eventually captured and held prisoner for three months in the infamous Libby Prison. Despite not being an "ultra abolitionist," by his own admission, William chose to take a stand for what he knew to be right.

Interested in hearing more about William and the rest of the Robinsons? Come to Rokeby Museum and take our historic house tour at 11:00am and 1:30pm. Hear the incredible story of the family who once walked these grounds.

Rokeby will be open all day, 10:00am - 5:00pm.

This year, Rokeby Museum's newest exhibit has spread outside our visitor center. As part of our collaboration with the Todd Drake, Rokeby's grounds have played host to some of his latest work. These signs, scattered around our historic outbuildings, are a representation of some of the guiding principles of Quakerism.

Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship are a core set of values for the Quaker community. These values, often represented as "SPICES" in Quaker schools, guide Drake in his art, including the work on display at Rokeby Museum today. By placing them around our grounds, he reminds us both of the Robinson family's deep connection to Quakerism and how we can choose to live our lives, as the Robinsons did, in ways that embody these principles.

Stop by Rokeby and see them for yourself, then search the grounds for his other installations. Rokeby Museum is open 10 - 5, seven days a week.

Rokeby Museum may have just opened for the season, but our nature trails have been in use all year long (and not just by humans)! Our trail cameras picked up this latest visitor to our grounds along with a few other interesting guests, including cats (both wild and domestic) as well as a nocturnal visitor.

Come by and explore the historic Robinson property yourself, then cool off in our main exhibit, "Seeking Freedom: The Underground Railroad and the Legacy of an Abolitionist Family." Rokeby Museum is open 10 - 5, seven days a week.

Today is International Museums Day! This year's theme is "Museums Uniting a Divided World," and in that spirit, Rokeby Museum encourages all of our visitors to explore our latest exhibit, "Help Each Other." A collaboration with Todd Drake, "Help Each Other" is a call for each of us to embrace empathy, to condemn war, and to believe in hope.

The center of the exhibit is a Quaker-inspired discussion circle, which emphasizes equality and brotherhood between the sitters. It's our hope that visitors will take time to truly experience the exhibit and share their thoughts and feelings with others, whether they be friends, neighbors, or strangers.

We live in a time where museums find themselves accused of promoting "divisive" or "unpatriotic" perspectives, especially surrounding the time of enslavement. This exhibit is a reminder that while our history and the actions of our predecessors may be difficult to grapple with at times, the struggle to understand can be one that unifies, not divides, us.

Rokeby Museum is open 10-5, seven days a week, until October 11th.
