The spring is coming to Wells county, with geese honking in the sky on their way to summer grounds and first snowdrops emerging on sunny hillsides. The fields still look bare and the trees look lifeless, but underground the grasses and seeds are waking up and preparing themselves to shoot the first tender leaves and stems through the dirt and towards the sun. The trees are working hard to pump moisture and nutrients towards the buds, itching to unfurl first leaves and flowers.

In sync with nature, WCHS has been quietly but steadily working through the winter on refreshing and reorganizing our displays and adding to our collections. We are looking forward to opening our doors to visitors in the new season!

Our first regular meeting of 2026 will be in April. Details to follow! 🌱

Here is the link to WCHS Library Resources, where you can find a treasure trove of digitized - and searchable! - documents, biographies, books, etc. about the history and people of Wells County: https://wellscounty.catalogaccess.com/library?search=&page=1&size=10&withImages=false

A recent and notable addition to our digital library is Walter Spokesfield's The History of Wells County and Its Pioneers (c) 1928, scanned and uploaded by Jim Winsness (thank you, Jim!). Check it out! Lots of local family names and stories and exciting glimpses into early history of the land that eventually became Wells Co. can be found in that book.

The presentation on Harvey's "Million Dollar" Band by David Clough, the president of WCHS, opened with a joyful performance by Harvey School Band, setting the mood and lifting the spirits. What a great way to connect the history of early 20th century to nowadays!

For those who weren't able to attend the special meeting: please, find the detailed report by The Herald-Press in the comments.
