A U-M Flint Senior Exhibition by Catie Cunningham

🗓 Open May 8th – June 8th
Flint Artwalk Opening Reception: Friday, May 8th | 6–9 PM

“Home” explores the relationship between an individual and their environment, touching on how the people, places, and experiences build an individual’s identity. Through expressionist paintings, the show asks questions about what of our past we must carry with us and what’s better left behind. Using imagery from artist Catie Cunningham’s family archive, “Home” acts as a love letter and goodbye to her childhood as she prepares to move away from her hometown of Flint, Michigan.

Stop by Riverbank Arts this Friday, April 10 from 6–8pm for a beginner-level visual art activity with Detroit-based textile artist Amy Fisher Price.

Price’s newest work will be installed the following day at Flint Institute of Arts as part of Dancing in the Streets: Thresholds—an experimental public performance centered on Mama Sōl’s journey to becoming an artist.

Through a collective art-making activity at Friday’s pre-party, you’ll have the chance to contribute your own words and ideas to the installation.

All ages welcome. Free refreshments. ✨

About the Artist
Amy Fisher Price creates large-scale textile banners that reimagine the disappearing signage of post-industrial cities. Using found and discarded fabrics, she handcrafts each piece—preserving the visual language of factories, corner stores, and small businesses while giving them space to speak again in new ways.

Step Afrika! is coming to Flint — and you have TWO chances to experience it.
As part of Arts Access, we’re excited to welcome Step Afrika! on March 13 for two incredible events you won’t want to miss.
Step Afrika! is the first professional company in the world dedicated to the art form of stepping. Founded in 1994, the company blends traditional African dance, contemporary performance styles, and the historically Black Greek-letter tradition of stepping into a powerful, high-energy experience.
Using their bodies as instruments, performers create rhythm through synchronized footwork, clapping, chanting, and movement. Their performances are interactive, educational, and deeply rooted in culture — celebrating unity, teamwork, and community.
In addition to touring nationally and internationally, Step Afrika! is committed to arts education, leadership development, and preserving the rich history of stepping within Black culture and college life.

⚠️ Please note: prior stepping or dance experience is required.

✨ Step Afrika! Evening Performance

“Grey matter” is the tissue responsible for memory, emotion, movement, and thought. It’s what makes us human.

Jeremy Hansen’s work lives in that space — between heart and head. Between instinct and intention.

“I don’t set out to impress or explain. I show up, I listen, and I get to work.”

Grey Matter Collective is about trust — trusting the process, the materials, and the hands that shape them. It’s about honesty over perfection. Feeling over proving. Connection over control.

Once a piece leaves the studio, its meaning belongs to whoever stands in front of it. What you see. What you feel. That’s real.

Join us for an exhibition rooted in memory, emotion, instinct, and the quiet space where ideas begin.
