The FIA Art School is pleased to introduce Meiasha Gray, Ceramics Program Manager.
While she came to Flint from Brooklyn, NY to accept this role, Meiasha spent her childhood in Detroit before moving between Nevada and California. Gray received her BFA in Interdisciplinary Art with a Concentration in Ceramics from Sierra Nevada College in 2019.
She has attended the Anderson Ranch Arts Center Residency in 2019 with Fellowship, Greenwich House Pottery Artist Residency in 2021, and the BKLYN CLAY Artists Residency in 2023. She has shown at BKLYN CLAY in Brooklyn, NY (2023), Jane Hartsook Gallery in NY, NY (2022), Serva Pool Gallery and The Holland Project in Reno, NV (2019). While in New York, Gray continued her studio practice, while maintaining roles as a ceramics instructor, studio manager, and fabricator for various artists and designers.
“Upon my first visit I was impressed with the FIA’s commitment to cultivating a culture of fine arts which is evident in its museum. I also continue to be impressed with the Art School’s unique community relationships and history.”
In her personal work, Gray is a multi-media artist, who works primarily in sculpture and lens-based media. She utilizes stories and research into African diasporic ritual, spiritualism, communion, and celebration to inform their process and relationship with material.
She produces work that is largely concerned with patterned use of African Diasporic spiritual and cultural traditions, stories, and cosmologies and their resurgence throughout history and today. In her pursuit, she is searching for the multitudes of circumstantial connections which aids in their resurgence, as well as their enduring mysticism.
“As a fine artist who works across disciplines, I was drawn to the interdisciplinary approach to each craft offered in the Arts School. I am excited to thread these perspectives into my role as Ceramics Programs Manager.”
Please join us in welcoming Meiasha to Flint and the FIA Art School!
