Multimedia artist Robin Siewell and flame-work glass creator Joy Munshower and are Backstreet Gallery's May Featured Artists.

Robin Siewell knows no boundaries in her masterful multimedia art. Diverse paintings, in both oil and watercolors, showcase Northwest scenery, florals, and animals. Sometimes her approach is bold, and at other times soft and fluid. Robin works in a wide range of sizes, but each piece, no matter how small, has wonder and whimsy in it. Recently, Robin introduced woodworking into the Gallery. Her woodwork includes beautifully finished pieces, such as cutting boards and guitar pick cases, as well as a myriad of unusual, hand-painted layered wood wall hangings and laser-cut jewelry.

Come meet Robin and Joy and enjoy their beautiful artwork during Backstreet's Second Saturday reception on May 9th, 3-5 pm at Backstreet Gallery located at 1421 Bay Street. Enjoy refreshments, hors d'oeuvres and music with Richard Moore.

Joy has worked over the years in a variety of media including ceramics and bronze. All which led her to developing her highly detailed flame-worked glass sculptures - from solid glass "aquariums" complete with tiny fish to intricate studies for many different animals and mythical creatures.

After working in education for many years, Jane moved to Florence in 2000 and began exploring the wonders of watercolor the following year. She studies continuously with Susan Weathers. Jane has also taken classes from Katherine Davis; Ron Ranson, an English landscape watercolorist; and Gerald Brommer, a collage artist. Her works reflect her love of the beach, the outdoors, and her fascination with composition, color, and materials.

Backstreet Gallery is featuring a new show during April titled "Color and Contrast - A Retrospective". This show features the work of three long-time member artists who have played significant roles in making Backstreet the co-operative gallery it is today, Stephanie Ames, Pattie Brooks-Anderson and Jane Rincon.

Pattie Brooks Anderson, watermedia painter, joined the Gallery 20 years ago in its second year. Over those years, she has served as president multiple times. She has been painting and creating art in various media for many years and taught art at the secondary level for seven years in California. Pattie found her style and inspiration on the Oregon Coast. For her, each place, animal, or object takes on a sacredness that she attempts to convey in her paintings, expressing an overall awareness of the interconnectivity of all forms of life. She believes her images are inspired by a higher source.

Their reception, Saturday, April 11th, from 3-5 pm at Backstreet Gallery, 1421 Bay Street gives you the opportunity to meet them, see other words by these wonderful artists and enjoy the work of all Backstreet Gallery artsits.
