Join us for a special reception featuring the Non-Working Members of Backstreet Gallery on Saturday, October 10, from 3-5 pm.

The Non-Working Members each contribute unique pieces of art that enhance the overall quality and ambiance of Backstreet. These artists either live beyond the Gallery's mileage limits or have issues that prevent them from helping run the cooperative Gallery, as Working Members do. These versatile artists, each with their own unique talents, bring a diverse range of art to the Gallery, distinguishing Backstreet as one of the best on the Oregon Coast.

Enjoy an afternoon filled with art, community, refreshments and live music by Jeff Lovejoy.

Make today an Artsy Day!

Backstreet Gallery, FRAA and the Elements of Art Studio Tour are banding together in September to have their monthly Art Event on September 5, 3-5 p.m. As always, we will have our Featured Artists, w**e and refreshments, and music.

Backstreet Gallery will feature its writers (Pattie Brooks Anderson, Kathryn Damon-Dawson, Judy Fleagle, Karen D. Nichols) as well as driftwood and written word artist Denise Diamond.

FRAA will feature its Plein Air Painters, who will have finished works inside and will be painting out front of our building. A perfect way to experience plein air painting!

Elements of Arts Studio Tour is also this weekend (https://www.elementsofartstudiotour.com/). So make it a day by touring the artists' studios early and then joining Backstreet and FRAA from 3-5 p.m. for some art, relaxation, refreshments, and music!

Backstreet Gallery's September Featured Artists are Denise Diamond and the Backstreet Authors, Pattie Brooks Anderson, Kathryn Damon-Dawson, Judy Fleagle and Karen Nichols.

Come meet the artists/authors, discuss their latest books and see their artwork at Backstreet Gallery's Saturday reception, Saturday, September 5th, 3-5 pm. Jeff Lovejoy will be our musician and we will have w**e and delicious snacks.

NOTE: This month we moved our artists reception to the 1st Saturday so we could spread outside and not conflict with other events happening on the 2nd Saturday.

Each year, Backstreet Gallery hosts a Community Challenge to encourage all to get creative. This year's challenge is Sand, Sea and Stars.

You’re invited to pick up the rules and applications at Backstreet Gallery, 1421 Bay Street, also online at www.backstreetgallery.com. Then challenge yourself to reach for the stars and channel your creativity into your interpretation of the theme.

Use any art form, materials, or skills, whether 2-D or 3-D, as long as you meet the size requirements and a two-entry maximum. The juror to be announced.

The entry forms and fee deadline is October 15 with the entry fee at $5. The show runs from November 3 to December 1, with delivery of the completed art piece on November 1, 2. The Artists’ Reception is on November 14, 3-5 p.m. So, roll from the sea to the sand and be our Challenge Stars.

Backstreet Gallery authors, Pattie Brooks Anderson, Kathryn Damon-Dawson, Judy Fleagle and Karen Nichols, together with sculptor/poet Denise Diamond, have curated a show presenting some of their artwork along with their written words for an interesting featured show in September titled ""Whimsical Wise Words".

Kathryn Damon-Dawson is featured with her book, “Tundra Rhythms,” which is filled with true adventures with her husband, Rand, while exploring Alaska in their tail-dragger airplane.

Judy Fleagle is the nonfiction author of four regional books, four broad interest books, and her latest project—30 read-in-one-sitting, spiral-bound books for folks with short-term memory loss.

Pattie Brooks-Anderson weaves characters from her outstanding paintings into ecological adventures set in enchanting forests in her books—intended for children. She has also authored a novel intended for adults.

Karen D. Nichols is the author of 11 novels, two memoirs, two illustrated children’s books, and her latest book, “Then There Were Three.”

You’re invited to the reception on September 5, 3-5 p.m. Enjoy live music, w**e, and refreshments, while meeting the featured authors and Denise and acquainting yourself with their books––fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

"Whimsical Wise Words" is the theme for sculptor/poet Denise Diamond and four authors featured at Backstreet Gallery in September.

Inspired by the textures and shapes of driftwood, Denise explores the coast for small, unique pieces to create her hanging artwork. Her “Valhalla Ladders” incorporate beads. Some of her pieces show her collaboration with glass artist Joy Munshower and weaver Teresa Zook.

Denise also uses agates, shells, rocks, and miniatures in assemblages to tell a story. Let your whimsy decide what the story will be.

As a poet, Denise recently presented a workshop, “Poetry as Dialogue,” at the Oregon Poetry Association’s 70th Convention. Her poetry is combined with driftwood in some of her assemblages, as well as her “Meditation” pieces.

If you haven't had time to stop into the Siuslaw Public Library and see Backstreet's Gallery display, this is your final week! Our artwork is on display through the month of August in the main hall and case.

If you haven’t had the chance to stop by the Gallery recently, more of Cathleen Kohler’s pastels continue to be on view through the end of August!
Cathy uses soft pastels to make lovely, impressionist paintings of landscapes, animals, and still-lifes. Many of her paintings evoke a sense of serenity and calm through her use of blending and color.
As gorgeous as her paintings are on social media, they look even better in person - find them at Backstreet Gallery, 1421 Bay St in Florence, OR, and come enjoy the coastal summer weather while visiting!

Featured Artist this August at Backstreet Gallery: Tamarah Phillips!

Tamarah is a multitalented artist whose main body of work combines low relief sculptural elements into her paintings of ethereal women, flowers, or sea creatures. Her delicate rendering of her subjects contrasts beautifully with the moody blues and teals of her backgrounds, drawing the viewer into a world of mysticism and wonder.

If you adore Tamarah’s work as much as we do, make sure to stop by Backstreet Gallery (1421 Bay St, Florence, OR) before the end of August to see a wider selection of her pieces than we typically have on view.

You won't want to miss our August Featured Artist showcase of pastel painter, Cathy Kohler, and acrylic/oil painter, Tamarah Phillips. So much color and beauty in their artwork.
