Backstreet Gallery's June Featured Artists are John Leasure and Judy Fleagle.

John Leasure, master oil painter/teacher, and Judy Fleagle, author of an eclectic mix of books, are Backstreet Gallery's June Featured Artists.

In John's dynamic presentations, he captures a lighthouse, an ocean scene, and a vase of flowers within a stream of light. The viewer is drawn into his scene, as he sends birds skittering across wet sand or portrays luminescent waves exploding on a craggy shore. He bathes his subject in a brilliant light that may rest on a flower petal or streak through clouds, but always radiates across the canvas. Viewing his work one wouldn’t expect that he is self-taught, because he exhibits such skill in his teaching.

John is a leader in the Florence Art scene. He is a founding member of Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA), where he also shows his work and teaches painting classes with the goal of helping each student’s talents emerge.

Judy Fleagle, author of an eclectic mix of books, and John Leasure, master old painter/teacher, are Backstreet Gallery's June Featured Artists.

Since 2010, Judy has written seven non-fiction books, and in 2025, she did a second printing of the first book she put together in 1991 of her parents’ stories. Four of her books are regional, and four are personal, and all are filled with photos. Because of her two books about the coast’s historic bridges, she is known as the 'Bridge Lady of the Oregon Coast'.

In 2025, she wrote, printed, and spiral-bound 30 books (her Read4Pleasure Series). Each book is short enough to be read in one sitting and is intended for those with short-term memory loss who no longer read for pleasure. The format has been simplified but not dumbed down. These books are dedicated to her sister, a retired librarian, who now has short-term memory loss.

Three of her regular books and most of her Read4Pleasure books came from her popular blog, crossingsauthor.com, which posts nearly every Friday and has for 15 years. Judy has developed quite a following.
