Have you ever heard of the Webfoot Walkers?

The Webfoot Walkers was a historical volkssporting (walking) club based in the Hillsboro and Forest Grove areas of Oregon. As part of the American Volkssport Association (AVA), they organized non-competitive 10K and 5K "Volksmarches", using neighborhood paths, and themed holiday routes.

Locals may well recognize "Castle School."

This is a commemorative pin for those who completed this particular walk in 1992.

The abrupt change in the weather means it is harvest time! If you have extra bounty and want to share, please bring what you have to our gleaning party on the 13th of September.
The location is the historic Alvin T. Smith House in Forest Grove. Look under "events" and you will see more details.
Oh! We will also have a cake walk there!

You may have missed out on this swim meet in 1972, but you don’t have to miss out on visiting our history museum!
We are open today from 1pm-4pm.
Located on the corner at 1936 19th Avenue.
We have volunteer docents on hand today!

Throwback Thursday!

50 years ago this week, here and around the Grove, a mini twister touched down near Roy, destroying a lot of property and downing several trees on the Spiering farm; Sam Best turned 100 and was celebrated with a bag pipe serenade; teachers were back at their desks and ready to welcome students back for a new school year; A new control building and pumping system at the Water Treatment plant on Fernhill Road was nearly complete; and local coaches were getting their young football teams into shape; All this and much more was in the news this week. Do you recognize any of these fine folks? Let us know! Enjoy the show!

You can check out our great reference library too!
If you ever feel like volunteering, being trained as a docent is a great way to give back to your town.

Are your fruit trees over-full this year? Time to share! We have a gleaning event scheduled for Sunday, September 13th at the Alvin T. Smith House on Elm Street in Forest Grove.
Don't let that fruit or other garden goodies go to waste. Free to give and free to take!

We are sponsoring an old fashioned cake walk! This is a fundraiser for the ongoing restoration of the Alvin T. Smith House. This should be a fun event and we hope to see you there!

If you were to cook a Sunday roast at the turn of the century, you may have purchased it from this market. Maybe even from Wilber himself!
Where was this market? Do you know? Did your dad work with WIlber?

Stop by on any Wednesday from 10am - 1pm or on Saturdays from 1-4pm and you can see photos like this at your local history museum. We also have a fantastic library and reference library.
