We had a visit from local Scouting America Pack 169 this weekend. It was fun connecting with the scouts and family and sharing the museum with them and learning about the Scouts.

The display will be available for viewing till the end of November. Be sure to stop by and if you were involved in the Scouts, we would love to hear about your experiences.

We have volunteers who open the museum on Wednesdays from 10am-1pm and on Saturdays from 1pm-4pm. We are located at 1936 19th Avenue in Forest Grove. We can ALWAYS use more volunteers! :)

The Fairy Garden Workshop is today at the museum. We are located at 1936 19th Ave in Forest Grove.

Create your own fairy, gnome, woodland scene, beach village, or other miniature garden display during this fun, two-hour workshop.

Your $40 workshop fee* includes instruction, use of tools, and a basic materials package to create and take home a completed miniature display.

A variety of additional miniature houses, characters, accessories, lights, and decorative items will be available for purchase if you would like to customize or expand your creation.

Additional items are optional and priced separately.
*20% of the proceeds will go to the Alvin T. Smith House Restoration Fund.

Today is Saturday and that means your local history museum will be open from 1pm-4pm - with free admission!
Located on the corner of Main and 19th Ave - 1936 19th Ave in the brick one story building.
AND - tomorrow on SUNDAY, there is a "Build your own Fairy Garden" workshop at the museum. That should be a lot of fun! You can sign up on our website at www.fhfg.org - under "events" at the top of the page.

Nikol Roubidoux, board secretary for Friends of Historic Forest Grove, has been chosen by the board of directors as the new manager of our FHFG Museum and Library. Many of you know her from multiple Friends events as well as her work at Pacific University, including advisor to the Indigenous Student Alliance there. She is completely qualified to take over this position and will be acting museum manager until a replacement board secretary is found. When that happens she will be free to fully concentrate her volunteer time on the museum. She brings many skills and talents and we look forward to the impact she will have in furthering Forest Grove's historic community. Nikol succeeds recent museum manager Elle Giego. Here she accepts the care of the museum with the official hand-off from the artifact collection. Cheryl and Don Skinner and Melody Haveluck are former managers the honors.

Only a few spots left for the spooky stories night at your local history museum TONIGHT- Friday night!

Many Forest Grove homes and buildings date back to the mid 1800s. Each have their own histories and energies that have made themselves known to residents throughout the decades.

Spend an evening with Stephanie Asher, a "psychic empath" who is able to sense energy and emotions and see auras in people and objects. On occasion, she visually sees "ghosts."

See historic photos of Forest Grove as you hear about community members' ghostly experiences during this 90-minute presentation. You may also share your own stories.

Suitable for those with limited mobility and those in the family who like "spooky tingles." Storytelling will take place in the Old Train Station at 1936 19th Ave. (which houses its own ghosts).

Cocoa, c***r, and treats will be available at no extra cost.

Throwback Thursday!

50 years ago this week, here and around the Grove, young football players sold candy to support the team; The Gales Creek PTA held a spaghetti feed and cake walk; It was Homecoming weekend in Forest Grove and senior girls were selected as princesses, with a queen to (soon be) crowned; a ginormous squash was used to advertise the annual Sausage and Kraut dinner in Verboort; Debby Loeffler was named decorating consultant at Brodersen’s, and her husband Mark was accepted in the Optometry program at PU; Dorothy Schauermann was installed as president of the Washington County Federation of Women’s Clubs; Senior citizens got their annual flu shots; Rotary Club Scholarships were presented to high school grads; Traffic problems at the entrance of Forest Gale Heights were discussed; and candidates for State legislature squared off in a heated debate. Dang! Times have not really changed all that much, right? Were you involved in any of these happenings? Did you get your annual jabs yet? Let us know what you recall! Enjoy the flashback!
