✨ Collections Spotlight ✨

Today is National Beverage Day, and we’re taking a look back at some classic soda bottles once enjoyed right here in Fort Mill. Pictured from left to right are vintage Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, and Lime Cola bottles found in Fort Mill, SC.

Do you remember drinking soda from glass bottles like these? Or maybe collecting them after? We’d love to hear your memories in the comments.

History in the making.

Fort Mill has always been a place that grows with its community. From its early beginnings to today, each new chapter adds to the story.

This partnership with Winthrop University to bring higher education opportunities closer to home is part of that ongoing history.

Years from now, this moment will be one we look back on as another step forward.

May 3 is National Textiles Day, a time to recognize the many ways textiles shape our everyday lives. From the clothes we wear to the items we use in our homes, textiles have long been an essential part of daily life and local industry.

In honor of this day, take a look at this vintage shipping label for a stockholder’s gift sent to H.P. Walker, Sr. of Fort Mill, SC. What stories do you think items like this can tell about our community’s past?

We might have missed National Volunteer Week, but only because we were busy getting ready for one of our favorite traditions, the Strawberry Soirée. And truthfully, that wouldn't have been possible without our volunteers.

To everyone who gives their time, energy, and heart to the Fort Mill History Museum throughout the year, thank you.

From events and programs to behind-the-scenes support, you are a big part of what keeps local history alive in our community.

Grateful this week and every week. 🧡

Spring is in full swing, and it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy all the season has to offer. This photo captures a classic Fort Mill pastime, four men enjoying a game of baseball on a warm day. Pictured left to right are Bob Porter, JB Mills Jr., WH Cook, and Pete Goodman.

What’s your favorite way to get outside this time of year?

We need you, Fort Mill 🍓

The Fort Mill History Museum is gearing up for the South Carolina Strawberry Festival - Fort Mill, SC, and we’re still looking for volunteers to help make it happen.

For several years, we’ve partnered with the Town of Fort Mill to manage beer and wine sales at the festival, and it’s one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Every shift helps support the museum and the work we do to preserve Fort Mill’s history.

Volunteer roles include:

• Checking IDs and issuing wristbands
• Selling tickets
• Serving bottled and craft beer
All volunteers must be 21+. If you’re able, we’d love for you to sign up for more than one time slot.

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering, now is the time. Sign up below!

Just eight years later, everything changed when he took a stand against British authorities and faced the consequences. ✨ Collections Spotlight ✨

April 26–May 2 is Preservation Week, a time to celebrate the stories, objects, and moments that shape our community.

Because of the generosity of our local community, the Fort Mill History Museum is able to collect, preserve, and share these pieces of history for everyone to enjoy.

In honor of Preservation Week, take a look at this Elliott Springs playing card from a 1934 National Chicle Company series called “Sky Birds.”
