“The self-conscious aim of Life is to find expression. . . Art offers certain beautiful forms through which it may realize that energy.”
- Oscar Wilde

It has been said that life imitates art and vice versa. One dovetails into the other, forming a continuous bond between experience and expression. My art and I share such a bond. Dancers have fascinated me since childhood, and capturing their poet

ic motion in visual media has become a major part of my work. As a dancer myself, I find my art often reflects the beautiful partnering of literal action and artistic interpretation. Dynamic motion, bold color, and contemporary composition are my work’s hallmarks. My imagery is often both traditional and modern—like a Flamenco dancer rendered in marker and ink. They are strong and passionate, grounded and powerful. My hope is that these pieces feel to the observer as if, at any moment, the subject may come alive and dance out of the frame before the viewer’s eyes. Sarah Bryan is an interior designer by trade and a fine artist by passionate choice. She is the co-creator of Bright Ideas Collective—a book, blog, and community movement dedicated to helping people make creativity a daily lifestyle.

I’m taking some time away from social media for this month. I’ll be returning in February, hopefully a little more centered and present in my life. See y’all in a month!

I don’t know about you, but September and October have been intense months for me. High activity and several tense moments have left me feeling a bit hung over as we start November. To reset myself, I’ve set a little creative challenge. I aim to spend the month filling this canvas with gratitude. The end result will be the ground for a painting filled with joy. Check back again soon for progress updates!

Funny story: I was painting this live at my church this morning. In the midst of the busy 11 AM service, surrounded by dozens of people, I slipped stepping up on the platform. This wasn’t a dainty, mild trip. Nope. I BUSTED IT in spectacular fashion, spilling the water cup in my hands and splitting the knees of my favorite pants. I was a textbook case of hot mess. Part of me wanted to slink away in mortification, but I stayed put because I realized that even my hot mess-ness is holy. Even my wild, at times chaotic process is beautiful. All of my life - both the perfected and the in-process - tells a story of grace that’s worth sharing. So I stand in my mess, telling my story, and make the broken into beautiful.
