Historical Fort Mitchell

Historical Fort Mitchell Fort Mitchell built in 1813 is a National Historic Landmark Site located in Russell County, Alabama.

The original military post, established as Fort Mitchell in 1813, has been reconstructed on acreage next to the National Cemetery. The Fort, Old Tavern, the Crowell-Whitaker Cabin and Visitor’s Center also neighbor the Chattahoochee Indian Heritage Center which celebrates the culture and accomplishments of the Native Americans who lived on the Chattahoochee River. The Visitors Center contains a museum, artifacts and a video focusing on Russell County history. Russell County is named in Alabama as the "County of Forts."

There will be a barn quilt painting party in the Museum at Fort Mitchell Historic Site on June 13th, 2026. It's an extremely limited event with a maximum of 12 participants. The fee is $35 which includes all supplies.
If you're interested and would like more information, please call Dell at 706-577-3327. You must pre-register with the fee prior to the event. 😊
