Six of our seasonal state historic sites are opening today! First Territorial Capitol, Grinter Place, Pawnee Indian Museum, Red Rocks, Mine Creek Civil War Battlefield, and Cottonwood Ranch are ready to welcome visitors. In 1901 the Kansas Legislature requested that Congress allow the building to be preserved by the state. However, the state legislature did not set aside money for maintenance and repairs until 1927.
