Fostoria Area Historical Society

Fostoria Area Historical Society Welcome to the Fostoria Area Historical Society. We are a society dedicated to the preservation of all things Fostoria. The society operates two museums.

We are also committed to the education of ourselves and the public on the history of Fostoria and its surroundings. The main branch is located at 123 West North Street in an 1875 fire station, Fostoria’s oldest public building. It features a Fostoria manufactured Allen Car and a WWII era Seagrave fire engine. The other branch is located at 105 North Main Street. It is called Foster’s Museum, named

after Fostoria’s native son and two time Governor of Ohio, Charles Foster. This museum contains many of the Foster family belongings and other displays related to Fostoria. Both museums are open Saturdays, 11:00 – 2:00 (May through October). A special request to visit the museums at different hours may be made to Leonard Skonecki at (419) 435-3588. Of course, admission is free. Come Visit Us,

It’s Your History, Too!

Then and Now – Today, we’re comparing views looking at the Tiffin, Ohio Sears store from the east side. In the top vintage photo from around 1969/1970, we’re standing in front of the Petries Store that was part of the Westgate Shopping Center. The covered walkway went all the way along the entrances of several stores, including Petries, to the entrance of Sears. The bottom photo is the current view from this same location. When the Sears store was demolished and the new Kroger Store was built, Kroger added a drive-up window to the pharmacy in that area. Even though the Sears store has been gone for over 30 years, we remember going through those doors like it was yesterday.
