Choosing glazes is one of the most difficult for me. Not all glazes work on all clays so you are supposed to test them all first. I usually just go for it but that’s not always the best choice!

The glazes need to be food safe. There are some pretty glazes and combinations of glazes that are not truly considered food safe. There are different temperatures that each glaze fires too as well (clay too!).

Colors are hard to choose too. I glazed 5 bowls in this warm neutral, country inspired light shino glaze and not a single bowl sold at my last market.

Just know, when you see a pot for sale that the potter went through a series of decision making to land on that chosen glaze with that clay…

The Brick Store Bazaar! There were many favorite moments about last night but my absolute favorite thing was hearing folks stop by saying things like “we came last year and bought a mug! We had to come get more.” “I use the bowl we bought from you all the time.” There’s just something about drinking or eating out of pottery, and knowing it was made in Vermont adds a little something special. It truly makes my heart happy that my pots are being used!

A huge shoutout to my husband who hauled my pots in and out, and ran back to the house because I forgot the fidget stones! There would have been a big part of last night missing if he hadn’t. The kids (and adults) who stopped by and touched them, picked them up, and played with the stones to figure out which was the right one for them. When I would tell the kids, you can choose one, they would ask “for free???” And I watched their eyes lit up when I said “yes!” 🥹

The stars and the lights. The ambience. The people roaming in and out amongst the vendors selling their wares in an old brick store. Amazing!

Morning studio views - bisque pots, including my daughter and her friends ornaments they carved ( MRF ♥️), glazing continues for glaze fir Thursday, and mugs drying under plastic (drying for 10/10 market).

Preparing for Saturday’s market with lots of checklists and wondering if I’ll get it all done - come check my pots out, shop among the local vendors and enjoy the fall day!!
