This Saturday (March 14th) the Franklin Gem & Mineral Museum will be highlighted in Gordon Mercer's radio show: Everyday Citizens Making A Difference. The show is on at 8am on fm 104.5, 101.9 and am 1050. Society president Dr Susan Ray will discuss the Gem Society, when and how it started, and how to join, as well as all about the museum and it's displays. Saturday, 8:00 am!

We're open all winter: Friday and Saturdays Noon-4:00. The Franklin Gem & Mineral Society has hosted the museum for 51 years! We have over 5,000 Gem & Mineral displays in 8 rooms, including NC Room, States' Room, Native American Room, and Ole, original jail cell, the Dinosaur & Fossil Room, International Hall, and the World Room. Our all- volunteer organization volunteers can answer rock identification inquiries, give advice on local finds, and explain about local mines and their history. Come to the Gem Museum (in Macon County's original jail) and celebrate the rich history of local mining and geology.

Happy Thangsgiving to all! The FREE museum and gifts shop will be open Friday and Saturday, Nov 28 and 29, Noon- 4pm. We'll also be open Sat 5-8pm for the downtown Winter Wonderland. Come by and take advantage of our gifts hope sales and enjoy a free snack. Also, wood crafting artist Ryan Pounds will be on site carving some new and creative piece! 25 Phillips St in the Old Jail- just down from the courthouse.
