It’s Karen the Curator, and it’s time for ! This week is and I found these three things to share with you!
1.) This is an Army Air Force olive drab service dress coat that was owned by Alice Handy Grubbs. Alice was a nurse during WWII and was stationed at St. Petersburg, Florida.
2.) Here is a gold-colored Army Nurse’s pin that was owned by Major Hellen Callon who served during WWII.
3.) This photograph was taken by Herbert Harris at the Masonic Temple Lodge 107. The lodge served the Red Cross during WWII.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Wine, Cheese, and All That Jazz annual fundraiser for the Johnson County Historical Society. It was another very successful event and we are close to our goal for the Hendricks Cabin!

Today is the annual running of the Kentucky Derby. Johnson County has a connection to that race? In 2011, Santiva, a horse owned by Walter Thoroughbreds, participated in the Derby. Only 20 horses actually run in the race, making it incredibly rare just for a horse to make it. This display of memorabilia on Santiva is on loan from Tom Walters.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Dr. Benjamin Franklin Voices from the Past Storytellers program at Franklin College last night! We had a full house in the Custer Theater to listen to Dr. Franklin talk about his fascinating life! Thank you County Public Library-Indiana for co-sponsoring the event and for Festival Country Indiana for bringing the sign-able Declaration of Independence.

Tonight is the night! Join us for a night with Benjamin Franklin at 7:00 pm in the Custer Theater, located in Old Main on Franklin College's campus. Old Main is located on the SE corner of Branigin Blvd. and Monroe St. The event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the Johnson County Public Library-Indiana. It is one of the county's America's 250th events!
