Remembering Their Sacrifice: A Memorial Day Message
This Memorial Day, the Ashbel Woodward Museum joins our community in solemn remembrance of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

From the local patriots of the Revolutionary War who fought for the dawn of American independence, to the generations of Franklin residents who answered the call in conflicts that followed, we owe an immeasurable debt to those who gave their lives to protect our freedoms.

Dr. Ashbel Woodward himself served as a battlefield surgeon during the Civil War, witnessing firsthand the profound cost of preserving our Union. His legacy reminds us that history is not just a collection of dates, but a deeply personal story of service, sacrifice, and community.

Honor, Reflect, and Remember
As we gather with family and friends this weekend, let us take a moment to look back with gratitude. May we carry forward the memory of our fallen heroes, ensuring that their names, their stories, and their bravery are never forgotten.

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude.”

President Harry S. Truman.
