As the nation marks its 250th anniversary in 2026, Rose Hill Manor Park & Museums is helping tell that story right here in Frederick County.

Reopening April 2, Rose Hill kicks off the semiquincentennial with "In Search of Freedom," a new exhibit exploring the legacy of the American Revolution through the lives of people connected to this place.

Long before the manor house was built, figures like Peter Hoffman Jr. and Governor Thomas Johnson played critical roles in supporting the Revolutionary cause - supplying troops, organizing militias, and helping shape a new state and nation.

Through artifacts, restored objects, and personal stories, Rose Hill invites visitors to consider what freedom meant in the 18th century and how those ideas continue to evolve today.

This spring, step into Frederick County’s Revolutionary past and see how local history connects to a national moment.

🌟 A Historic Day at Rose Hill Manor Park! 🌟

Today we broke ground on the new Robert H. Renneberger Carriage Museum Facility β€” and it couldn’t have been a more beautiful day to celebrate!

This 6,000-square-foot, climate-controlled building will provide a modern home for more than 26 historic carriages, sleighs, and wagons, replacing the original museum that opened in 1976. The new space will allow us to better preserve Frederick County’s rich transportation history while expanding opportunities for education, community engagement, and hands-on experiences.

We are so grateful to County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, Delegate Ken Kerr, Liz Casso, and our very own Kari Saavedra for sharing remarks, and to our special guests who helped make this project possible. Thank you to everyone who came out to mark this exciting milestone!

Our Parks & Recreation team is thrilled to be part of this project, which is scheduled to be completed in August 2026 β€” just in time to celebrate both the 50th anniversary of the carriage collection and the nation’s 250th anniversary.
