Through a generous donation, the Rappahannock Railroad Museum acquired a fully detailed Z scale layout. We are bringing it back to life one step at a time as members trace circuits to make the proper connections. The stand alone elevated oval is the first to be powered. Years of storage had coated the tracks in a thick layer of grease and soot. About an hour of cleaning and the little tank engine ran flawlessly.
Come by any Saturday morning from 9AM to Noon and see what is new. We are continually changing, improving, and having fun to boot.

Winter Notice: Sad to say but the weather is often below 40 degrees on Saturday mornings this time of year. Between December 1 and March 15 we will operate the train only when weather permits usually this means that temperatures warm above 40 degrees by 10AM. If we have rain, snow, or sleet we will not operate regardless of temperature. Please consider this and dress appropriately. Around Mid-March we will resume rides every Saturday (if no rain or snow) through end of October. Meanwhile our restored cars are open for touring as is our new museum building which is heated and now has most of our dispalys and operating HO and O gauge model trains. As usual we open at 9AM and close at 12. Train boarding times are between 9:30 and 10:30. All visitors are welcome to arrive at 9 but and watch us take the train out of storage and prepare for the morning rides.

Saturday, Oct. 6 a cloudy and sometimes misty day depending on where you live in the greater Fredericksburg area. The rails at the museum stayed dry so we had full operations including the maintenance of way train trips. We made 4 complete runs along Deep Run spur. Watched a CSX coal train southbound on trip 2 and AMTRAK Northeast Regional Northbound on trip 3. Over 60 vistors rode along with us to experience how early to mid 20th Century track workers commuted to work. Overall had close to 70 visitors to your local rail museum. As Fall and Winter approach we run the train exhibit when we can. Generally morning temps over 40 and dry weather. Other Saturdays the rest of the museum is open. With our new exhibit building open the exhibits and model trains can be viewed in A.C. or Heated comfort as appropriate. Come out and visit us again and see what is new.
