Interesting Video showing the History behind the making of the HEISLER Geared Logging Locomotive, with ours being a 1912 model from his third and final venture.
Starting in 1891 with the Dunkirk Company when Charles Heisler was their "Mechanical Superintendent" and Redesigned the Class B GILBERT Locomotive that Dunkirk was already building and changing it from the CLIMAX Style Engine to HEISLER's new V-TWIN design along with modifying the Geared Trucks to use fewer parts as per His 1892 Patent. Dunkirk built them from 1892 through 1893 when the owner died.
Heisler went to BALDWIN Locomotive Works from 1893 through 1904 then shut down production again when Baldwin's President died.
Three years later Charles Heisler joined forces with F.F. Curtz(sp) and Swalve(sp) and formed the HEISLER LOCOMOTIVE WORKS in 1907 making more modifications in the process. Heisler Ended Production (again) in 1941 after 621 engines, with One Final Engine being built by A&G Price in New Zealand from leftover parts in 1943, 2 years after Heisler Shut Down.
In today's video, we take a look at the locomotives designed by Charles Heisler, which may have been some of the greatest logging locomotives of all timePlea...
