Today, we commemorate Juneteenth in Galveston, where General Order No. 3 was issued on June 19, 1865, announcing freedom for enslaved people in Texas.

Our Pullman Porters exhibit is on permanent display, sharing the story of African American railroad workers whose work, resilience, and organizing helped shape railroad and American history.

This month, guests can also view Rising from the Rails, a documentary that continues that story!

This Friday, June 19 at 3 PM Dr. Tara T. Green joins us for a visual and interactive presentation, “How Did the Troublemakers Get on the Train?!: African American Women Activists for Freedom in the Early Twentieth Century.”

The presentation looks at Black women who traveled by train in the late nineteenth through mid-twentieth centuries to advocate for equality through talks, conventions, and protests 🚂 Join us!
