The South Carolina Maritime Museum has been a long-time vision of the Harbor Historical Association (HHA), a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1996 with the mission to preserve and promote the maritime history of Georgetown County and South Carolina. How can you support and participate in the museum evolution? There are three ways: 1. Capital Giving. 2. Annual Giving. 3. Volunteering. It

is the purpose of the South Carolina Maritime Museum to offer a variety of experiences to young people and adults by collecting, preserving and interpreting items of historical interest for educational purposes and to recount South Carolina maritime history through artifacts, documents and other materials of antique or historical value. The exhibits will further the public interest, knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the seagoing heritage of South Carolina.

The South Carolina Maritime Museum staff recently visited the Charleston Library Society to attend a special event celebrating the iconic Spirit of South Carolina.

We enjoyed connecting with friends and partners from Spirit of South Carolina, Lowcountry Maritime Society, Dan the Knot Man, and many others who share a passion for preserving and promoting our state's rich maritime heritage.

It was especially meaningful to hear stories of the Spirit's past and learn more about the exciting plans for her future. The Spirit holds a special place in the hearts of many South Carolinians, and we look forward to welcoming her back to Georgetown in the years ahead.

Gatherings like these remind us how fortunate we are to be part of a community dedicated to keeping our maritime history alive for future generations.

Looking for an unforgettable summer experience for your child? ⛵🔨

Registration is still open for our Youth Sailing and Boat Building Camps! Whether they're learning to harness the wind on the water or building a boat with their own hands, campers gain confidence, new skills, and lasting memories.

We believe every child should have the opportunity to experience the water. Scholarships are available for our Youth Sailing Program to help make participation possible for more local families.

Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the crew of Pianocean to our museum. Pianocean is an incredible traveling music and sailing project led by French pianist and sailor Marieke Huysmans-Berthou, who sails the world with a piano onboard her boat, “Lady Flow.” The vessel transforms into a floating stage for concerts in ports around the globe.

Georgetown always seems to attract some of the most interesting visitors, and we loved getting to meet this adventurous family and hear more about their journey.

We were excited to welcome students from GHS Navy JROTC last week!

It’s always encouraging to see young people taking an interest in maritime history, leadership, and life on the water.

These students are also familiar faces around the waterfront, volunteering during the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show (Georgetown, SC) each year, and we’re grateful for the support they continue to show our museum and community.
