The South Carolina Maritime Museum Celebrating our state’s rich maritime history in Georgetown, SC | Proud hosts of the Wooden Boat Show, our annual fundraiser.

The South Carolina Maritime Museum has been a long-time vision of the Harbor Historical Association (HHA), a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1996 with the mission to preserve and promote the maritime history of Georgetown County and South Carolina. How can you support and participate in the museum evolution? There are three ways: 1. Capital Giving. 2. Annual Giving. 3. Volunteering. It is the purpose of the South Carolina Maritime Museum to offer a variety of experiences to young people and adults by collecting, preserving and interpreting items of historical interest for educational purposes and to recount South Carolina maritime history through artifacts, documents and other materials of antique or historical value. The exhibits will further the public interest, knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the seagoing heritage of South Carolina.

OPENING FOR THE WOODEN BOAT SHOW – NEW EXHIBIT!

SCMM is pleased to announce the opening of its newest exhibit, Searching for Depth – Georgetown Harbor’s Dredging History! Come on down during the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show (Georgetown, SC) this weekend and explore the interesting and dynamic story of dredging here in Georgetown. Learn how our famous Goat Island was created. See what those old dredges looked like. And take a "tour" around our latest dredge to work the waters of the Sampit River, Brunswick!

Congrats to our high school sailing team! WHS Sailing Team went to Lake Norman this past weekend for the first North Points Regatta of the season.

Despite some challenging weather conditions, our sailors hung in there, raced hard, and represented Georgetown well!

Not every regatta comes with sunshine and smooth sailing, but that’s part of the adventure!

Be sure to stop by our Youth Sailing tent at the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show (Georgetown, SC) this weekend! Meet some of our sailors, learn about the program, and see how we’re getting the next generation out on the water!

And the story behind it makes us love it even more. ❤️

For years, Phoebe has joined us for our summer Boat Building Camp, offered in partnership with the Lowcountry Maritime Society. She’s grown from a young camper learning the ropes to a skilled young boatbuilder, even returning last summer as a junior volunteer to help others learn!

Each year, Phoebe and her dad, Sam, bring the boat she built to exhibit at the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show. It’s a tradition we love!

Their story even inspired a neighbor to write a song about them! Sam recently shared it with us, and we just had to pass it along.

🎵 Turn up the volume and give it a listen!

And if you’re coming to the Show next weekend, October 17–18, be sure to find Phoebe and Sam, check out her boat, and stop to say hello!

Yes, the Maritime Museum is open…we don’t let a little rain chase us away! Stop by today to dry out and enjoy some time browsing the museum and the gift shop! We have some great new items in the shop, so come on in.
The restaurants and shops are open on Front street, despite the flooding. Just use your common sense and don’t drive through the water. 😬
