The South Carolina Maritime Museum

The South Carolina Maritime Museum Celebrating our state’s rich maritime history in Georgetown, SC | Proud hosts of the Wooden Boat Show, our annual fundraiser.

The South Carolina Maritime Museum has been a long-time vision of the Harbor Historical Association (HHA), a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1996 with the mission to preserve and promote the maritime history of Georgetown County and South Carolina. How can you support and participate in the museum evolution? There are three ways: 1. Capital Giving. 2. Annual Giving. 3. Volunteering. It

is the purpose of the South Carolina Maritime Museum to offer a variety of experiences to young people and adults by collecting, preserving and interpreting items of historical interest for educational purposes and to recount South Carolina maritime history through artifacts, documents and other materials of antique or historical value. The exhibits will further the public interest, knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the seagoing heritage of South Carolina.

Even our goat knows… life jackets save lives. 🐐🛟

This Friday, May 15, SCMM staff will be wearing life jackets to work in celebration of National Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day as part of National Safe Boating Week.

Whether you're on the water every day or just occasionally, wearing a life jacket can save your life.

We’d love for you to join us. Take a photo of yourself or your team in a life jacket and post it to our page using so we can celebrate safety together!

What an incredible Palmetto Giving Day!

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our posts, and helped spread the word. Your support means more kids will have the chance to learn, grow, and get out on the water through our Youth Sailing Program.

We’re so grateful to be part of a community that shows up like this.
THANK YOU!

Our Goat took on the Plinko board and won $3,000 for our Youth Sailing Program!

Huge thanks to the Tamsberg Family Foundation and Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation for supporting local nonprofits in such a fun and meaningful way.

Every bit of this goes right back to getting kids on the water.

You have until 6pm tomorrow evening to give online and help us reach our goal! Thank you!!

Every summer, James and his family travel from Scotland to Georgetown. One of the first things he does is get back on the water with us!

Our youth sailing program has been part of James' summer tradition. What started here has stayed with him far beyond Georgetown, carrying into other parts of his life and even other countries!

He and his family have become an important part of OUR family!

Jennifer, James' mom wanted to share this: “My son has been attending the SC Maritime Museum for 5 summers. It has changed his life. Not only has he learned the skill of sailing—but also confidence, camaraderie, competition, and teamwork. He feels part of a very special community.

The development of the program over recent years has been fantastic. The energy and commitment demonstrated by the team could not be overstated and is hugely appreciated.”

This is the kind of impact your support makes possible!

On Palmetto Giving Day, help us continue creating experiences that stay with kids long after summer ends.

For Palmetto Giving Day, we’re raising support for our Youth Sailing Program and giving more kids the chance to learn, grow, and connect with our coastal waters.

Come out and celebrate with us and other amazing nonprofits on May 5 from 4–7 PM at the Kaminski House lawn (and get a photo with our GOAT!) It’s a great way to give back and be part of something meaningful.
