Coming to Matchstick Marvels in the summer of 2027 is a 1/7 scaled, 18 foot-long matchstick model of the Union Pacific's "Big Boy" #4014 steam locomotive. You can view the real locomotive at the McCellan Street junction in Tama, IA on Monday, June 1, 2026 between 11:15 and 11:45 A.M. The #4014 Big Boy is crossing the USA this summer as part of our nation's 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. If you are in the area, it is your chance to view the largest steam locomotive ever made!

Matchstick Marvels is pleased to announce its 2026 season opening date of April 1st, with daily operating hours from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M., while closed on major holidays. Notably, the 2026 season features the newly completed Cinderella castle.

Completion of Cinderella's matchstick castle is nearly here. The castle will be on permanent display at Matchstick Marvels beginning this summer. Bring the kids to see Cinderella dance, Tinkerbell fly and, of course, Mickey and Minnie to meet you at the front gate.

Matchstick Marvels is now closed for the winter months. Regular operating hours will resume April 1, 2026. Matchstick Marvels will open by appointment only during winter months by calling 641-473-2410.

Work continues on Acton's matchstick model of the Disney's Cinderella castle, and it's completion is expected when the museum reopens next May. Mark your calendars now and plan to see the completed castle next summer.
