Happy VE Day, Glen Rock!

Today marks the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, when news spread around the world that N**i Germany had unconditionally surrendered, bringing an end to the war in Europe during World War II. One can only imagine the overwhelming relief and joy felt by families whose loved ones were serving overseas. Communities celebrated, church bells rang, and hopeful crowds gathered as the long years of war finally began to close.

At the same time, solemn memorials honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight to liberate Europe from fascism. Their courage and service must never be forgotten.

As we approach Memorial Day, all of us at the Glen Rock Historical & Preservation Society hope you have noticed the beautiful military banners displayed throughout town. A special thank you goes to the Glen Rock DPW for their hard work hanging them once again!

The banners along downtown Rock Road are especially meaningful. They honor Glen Rock residents who lost their lives in service to our nation, as well as individuals who gave extraordinary service to both our town and our country.

We encourage everyone to take a moment to learn about their remarkable stories here:

The Veterans featured on this page have their banners hung on Rock Road because they gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country or they made a special contribution to the US Armed  Forces or the GR VFW
