Today we are looking at some of the artworks from the Larry Albright Collection, which were donated to us by the Helen Albright and Larry Albright Trust.
Larry Albright is one of the most influential figures in plasma art but most people who lived through the 1990’s have been influenced by his work in someway. Albright shaped the cultural imagination of the future from his inventions for film to consumer electronics. He did special lighting effects for Star Wars, Star Trek, Close Encounters, Blade Runner, The Goonies, Honey I Blew Up the Kids, and more. He created some of the first mass produced plasma balls, bringing starlight to our fingertips. Albright was also a mentor to many neon and plasma artists and big champion of MONA from its inception. You can always find Albright work in view when you visit the museum, and it is often eliciting wonder and curiosity from our visitors. These works run on experimental technology and use unique approaches. They need maintenance, research, collaboration and care. Donating to the museum helps to support this work.
