✊🏾🖤 Black History Month Spotlight

This month, we honor the legacy of Frederick Jones, a brilliant inventor whose refrigeration units for trucks transformed the transportation of food and medicine across America. His innovation helped shape the modern “supermarket era” and continues to impact our daily lives.

Black history is filled with pioneers whose brilliance changed the world—often against tremendous odds. At the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center, we remain committed to preserving history, uplifting truth, and celebrating the contributions of Black leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

When you see refrigerated trucks on the road, remember the legacy of Frederick Jones—and the power of perseverance, innovation, and courage.

📚 Learn. Reflect. Honor.

✊🏾🖤 BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Remembering Emmett Till & Others Who Changed History

At the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center

We honor the life and legacy of Emmett Till, whose story awakened the conscience of a nation and became a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement.

This Black History Month, we also remember others whose lives were taken by racial violence—Medgar Evers, Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley—whose deaths exposed the cost of injustice and strengthened the call for change.

Through remembrance, education, and truth-telling, we preserve these stories so history is never forgotten and justice remains a shared responsibility.

✈️ Black History Month Spotlight ✈️

This Black History Month, we honor the visionaries who broke barriers and built history from the ground up.

Before opportunity was given, it was created. John C. Robinson and Cornelius Coffey made history by building and operating the first Black-owned airport in the United States, opening doors for generations of Black aviators and engineers. Their courage, skill, and determination reshaped aviation history and proved that excellence rises—even in the face of rejection.

At the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center, we are committed to sharing stories like these—stories of resilience, innovation, and truth that continue to inspire future generations.
