“The Goetemann Artist Residency will provide me with fully focused time to work every day on a new series pushing my still life and landscape paintings toward the more abstract. By working intuitively with a variety of materials, I hope to discover my own unique vocabulary of expression.”

A longtime Gloucester resident and practicing chiropractor, Elizabeth Bish has spent decades painting. Working primarily in oils, she explores landscapes, still lifes, figurative painting, and abstraction, and has exhibited throughout Cape Ann.

During her residency as the Gloucester Invitational Artist, Bish will develop a new body of work that pushes her work toward greater abstraction.

See the artist’s residency work-in-progress at her Open Studio on Saturday, October 24 from 2 to 4pm at 51 Main Street (Rear) in Gloucester.

Join us for a Gallery Talk in conjunction with the RNAC members’ exhibition, YES!, at the Cultural Center on Rocky Neck on Friday, October 23, at 4 pm.

A group of exhibiting artist members—Patricia Scialo, Donna Caselden, Juni Van D**e, Martin Sorger, David Covert, and Helen Kamins—will discuss their work, highlighting the processes, techniques, and inspiration behind the works on display. Comments and questions are welcome!

RNAC Beaux Arts Ball 2026 CANCELLED

After careful consideration of a few challenges, the Beaux Arts Ball Committee, in consultation with Patrick Hurd, proprietor of 51 Rocky Neck Restaurant, has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 Beaux Arts Ball.

We sincerely regret this decision and apologize for any disappointment it may cause. All ticket holders will receive a full refund.

More or Less brings together four artists—Willie Alexander, Joan Mullen, Martin Sorger, and Julia Talcott—working across painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

What happens when an artist chooses to show more—or less? Across distinct materials and approaches, these artists explore the tension between abundance and restraint, revelation and suggestion. Together, the works invite viewers to look closely at what is included, what is left out, and how much can be said with just enough.

Join Rocky Neck Art Colony for a lively conversation with five artists featured in ‘Making an Impression: Traditional Techniques, Contemporary Vision’, moderated by Stacy Vickory-Thomas, Dean of Academic Affairs at Montserrat College of Art who participated in RNAC’s exhibition ‘We Hold These Truths...American Stories’.

Bringing together artists from Cape Ann and beyond, this panel will explore the rich and varied language of printmaking—from time-honored processes and techniques to innovative contemporary approaches. The artists will share insights into their creative practices, inspirations, and the ways they use printmaking to explore ideas, experiment with materials, and create new visual possibilities.

The discussion will consider what makes printmaking such a dynamic and enduring medium, as well as how artists today are expanding its traditions and challenging expectations. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand about the ideas, processes, and experiences behind the works on view in ‘Making an Impression’.

Whether you are an artist, an admirer of printmaking, or simply curious about the creative process, this conversation offers an intimate look at the people and ideas behind the exhibition—and the vitality of printmaking today.
