Turn your child’s visit to Hammond Castle Museum into an engaging, hands-on learning experience with our Museum Explorer’s Guidebook.

Designed to help kids explore, discover, and learn as they journey through the Museum, this activity booklet includes a bingo-style scavenger hunt, fun facts about Hammond’s inventions, and prompts that spark curiosity along the way.

The Museum Explorer’s Guidebook is intended for children ages 5 and older and is included with admission tickets for children ages 5 to 12.

Join us on Friday, July 17th, for a special evening on our seaside lawn overlooking the shores of the Atlantic, framed with our stunning castle home as the backdrop, as we celebrate the Hammond Castle Museum’s legacy as a cultural anchor on Cape Ann.
Enjoy a curated menu of local fare, signature cocktails, champagne tours, and a magical sunset, all in support of preserving this historic treasure for future generations.

Our inaugural Seaside Soirée will feature a live auction with a special guest, as well as a silent auction, live entertainment, and ample opportunity to mingle and experience the magic of the Museum. The dress code is elevated coastal cocktail attire.

Weekdays tend to be quieter and offer the possibility for a more intimate experience within the Museum.

We’re open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with last entrance at 2:45 p.m. The Museum, Museum Shop, and grounds close at 3:30 p.m. Advanced reservations are strongly encouraged. More information and to reserve your admission tickets are available at: www.hammondcastle.org

From high-energy armored combat demonstrations and Medieval arms and armor presentations to wandering performers, enchanting entertainers, hands-on kids’ crafts, and plenty of pageantry, there is something for every prince, princess, knight, rogue, fairy, and friend.

From Mystery to Meaning…

In this video, Beth Welin, Director of Collections, helps us take a closer look at something that has been right in front of us, all along.

What appears to be just another relief in our courtyard wall is actually a fragment of an ancient sarcophagus, one that tells a powerful biblical story. With expert insight, this carved relief reveals King Nebuchadnezzar on his throne and imagery from the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego- a testament to faith, defiance, and divine protection.

It’s discoveries like this that transform a visit into something deeper. Hammond Castle Museum is filled with hidden stories, waiting to be uncovered, and we’re so grateful to Beth for helping bring them to light.

Ever since Hammond Castle Museum first rose above the Gloucester shoreline in the late 1920s, its spiral staircases, shadowed halls, and hidden nooks have stirred the imagination of visitors.

Some have called John Hays Hammond Jr. a mad scientist. Others have wondered whether the Castle is haunted. And throughout Gloucester, stories have lingered for generations about the mysterious happenings tied to the Hammonds’ time in residence.

This summer, you can hear many of those stories for yourself.

Beginning in July and continuing through October, Hammond Castle Museum invites guests to experience our Spiritualism Tours by Candlelight, an atmospheric evening tour exploring the Castle’s lesser-known history, including its connections to the American Spiritualism movement, the occult, and the legends that still surround it.

Walk the hallowed halls by candlelight. Carry a lantern of your own. And discover the stories that feel a little different after dark.
