Kathy of Ani Sol Designs has two new mixed media pieces at Local Colors Artists' Cooperative using stones, fossils and found pieces. The first is called Universal Understanding featuring a mountain shaped Amethyst, a collaged galaxy background with a yellow calcite moon with mosaic tiles. It offers protection, enhances creativity and brings a strong love of the universe and humankind. The second piece is called Ageless featuring a carved piece of a Orthocerus Nautiloid fossil at least 200 million years old with found pieces of Cape Ann sea glass and pottery surrounded by natural tiles. It symbolizes resilience, timeless beauty and hope.

Local Colors is proud to spotlight this month’s featured artists, Mary Woodall-Jappe and Perry McIntosh, whose dynamic works are now on display on the Featured Artists wall at the gallery and Bessie Blum who is featured in our alcove window. All three aartists bring unique perspectives and creative energy, offering visitors an engaging experience that celebrates the vibrant local art scene.
The three local artists work in different media, but a common theme: color and light.

Mary was captivated by the effect of light passing through colored glass—church windows, vases, perfume bottles. That early love of glass has led her to explore color, shape, and pattern in the almost limitless art of glass fusing. In this method, she cuts and layers colored glass at room temperature, then heats it in a kiln until it melts and fuses. Next steps include more cycles of cutting, fusing, grinding, and "slumping" (lightly melting into a mold to achieve a third dimension of shape.)

Perry loves the way the light in watercolors can “sing.” She works with the vitality of the colors and the way the paint and water seem to have minds of their own. Her travels inspire her painting but, living in Gloucester, she is naturally drawn to views of the New England coast, where she will never run out of scenes of natural beauty and spectacular light.

Bessie’s work spreads across many media, including fiber arts, ceramics, mosaics, painting, and more. But whatever medium she is working in, you can be sure to find animals and people somewhere at the heart of every piece.

So stop on by and take a peek of their new work and the work of all the other artists including jewelry, stained glass, fiber arts, photographs, ceramics and much more.
