Some artists leave us with songs. Some leave us with memories. And a rare few leave something behind that becomes a part of who we are.
Prince was one of those rare artists for me.
He was a musician, songwriter, performer, poet, visionary, and an artist who never seemed afraid to be completely himself. His music could make you dance, break your heart, challenge you, or simply make you stop and listen.
Iโm a drummer, and Prince has always been my favorite solo artist and one of the greatest musical influences on me. His creativity, musicianship, originality, and ability to cross genres made him someone I admired long before I ever thought about capturing musicians through my art.
When I started making images of musicians, this was one of the first. I created this portrait with a single continuous line, capturing the essence of Prince in a way that still feels unmistakably him.
Prince may be gone, but his music, his spirit, and his influence continue to live on for me.
