Gonzales County Jail Museum The jail was built in 1885 and closed in 1975. It features rebuilt gallows, original cells, sheriff? Be sure to take a tour!

Visit the Gonzales County Jail Museum and get a glimpse into working at the jail, living at the jail and of course being a prisoner at the jail. See the rebuilt gallows, sit in a cell, see the jailor's quarters.

JUST A HEADS-UP - THE GONZALES COUNTY JAIL MUSEUM WILL BE CLOSED TODAY. IT WILL BE OPEN FOR VISITORS AGAIN ON TUESDAY, JAN. 27TH, AT 10:00 A.M.
EVERYONE BE SAFE OUT THERE, THEN COME AND VISIT WITH US ON TUESDAY!!

Winter visiting hours are Fridays and Saturdays, However, we will have a docent to give tours when the weather is permitting, Tuesdays through Thursdays.

I was just thinking how lucky visitors to Gonzales on a weekend are. Not only is the early Texas law enforcement JAIL MUSEUM open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 - 5, but NOW the J. B. WELLS RANCH HOUSE, a cattle baron's home and outbuildings, is open on Saturday AND Sunday from 10 - 3. Tours are given at both places and the entry fee is very nominal. EARLY TEXAS BEGINNINGS AT THEIR BEST AND WHAT A FUN THING TO DO ON THE WEEKEND!!
