The Nature Museum

The Nature Museum Our natural history exhibits and programs engage and educate in order to spark a lifelong connection to the natural world.

Open Friday - Sunday, 10 - 4, admission by donation. The Magic Forest Playscape & grounds are open for exploration dawn - dusk. Take the whole family for a day of exploration, learning, and fun at The Nature Museum. Inside, you can examine Vermont wildlife up-close with interactive exhibits, hand-painted dioramas, and mounted specimens. Crawl through an underground bear den, dig for fossils, dress

up as your favorite creature, and watch the resident honeybees at work in their glass hive. Borrow one of the Museum’s Outdoor Adventure Backpacks and head outside to continue your adventure. Stroll or skip through the pollinator garden- you may see those same honeybees out collecting pollen or take a hike through the forest along the Fairy House Trail. Discover pond dipping, enjoy a picnic in the backyard, and take a closer look at the beauty that surrounds you.

Dig into the vital importance of soil at Giant Journey Farm this Saturday, May 9th! Participants will learn from Seren Dias and Rick Burke at their farm in Newfane, VT in this hands-on workshop about Soil Science and Health.

Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of the ground beneath our feet and how you can make a difference in your own backyard. We'll learn about healthy soil, how to achieve it, and its important connection to the climate. Then, everyone will roll up their sleeves and get into the dirt in a Soil Science Fair where we'll learn ways to measure and observe the health of the soil with first hand demonstrations.

Today is a special day for us here at The Nature Museum! ✨ May 4th is and it’s also Jocelyn Saltzman’s first day as our fourth full-time staff member!

Jocelyn has worked for The Nature Museum over the past six summer seasons as the Educator at the Bellows Falls Fish Ladder & Visitor Center, and will now be joining our small but mighty full-time staff team. She is the lead educator of our Summer Unplugged series that brings free, engaging nature programming to libraries in our region from late June through early August. Jocelyn’s passions include hiking, backpacking, skiing, chattering about sea lamprey, and helping foster a love for students’ local outdoors.

We are thrilled to have Jocelyn continue her work with us in this expanded role, and feel a new hope for a bright future ahead 💫 Welcome Jocelyn!
