We Found Some Energy in the Willard House!

Are Spirits Passing Through the Portals of the Willard House?

What if a doorway or window is more than an entrance? Could it be a passage between worlds — a place where unseen spirits or mysterious energy move freely between the past and the present?

At the Willard House & Clock Museum, where generations of clockmakers devoted their lives to unlocking the mysteries of time, some mysteries may be harder to explain. During a recent paranormal investigation, we found some energy in the Willard House! Could doorways, thresholds, or hidden portals be channels for something we cannot see or understand?

Join investigators from Paranormal New England for “Something May Be Ticking in the Night,” an intriguing evening exploring the history, science, and mysteries of the paranormal. Discover theories about unexplained energy, the possibility of spiritual portals, and the tools investigators use to explore the unknown.

Whether you're a skeptic, a believer, or simply curious about what might lie beyond the threshold, prepare for an evening that may leave you looking at doors a little differently!

At the Willard House, time opens the door to history. But what else might be passing through?

Accepting Applications for the David G. Gow Memorial Scholarship for Horology

Parker Boughton was among dozens of talented applicants when the David G. Gow Memorial Scholarship for Horology launched—and became its inaugural recipient.

For Parker, the attraction was clear: “I like clocks because of their varied technical repair and restoration challenges, the innovation inherent in these machines and the opportunity to understand the engineering intent of the clockmaker.”

We're now accepting applications and the award has doubled to $10,000. Open to U.S.-based students pursuing a professional career in clockmaking.

Help us keep the craft — and the knowledge behind it — alive for generations to come.

Application Deadline: November 4, 2026
Award Release: December 15, 2026

Today is 10/10, October 10th. If you have ever visited us or another clock museum, you may have noticed the clocks that are not running are set to 10:10. Why? The best explanation I heard is a) symmetry and b) it leaves the winding posts open, at least on a tall clock.

though, we seldom wind this one!

Some clocks in the museum stand out from all the others; this is one. This week we have a skeleton clock by Simon Willard Jr. circa 1835. Its design is very similar to those made by Lepine in Paris, which has raised some arguments over its origin.

Simon Junior's business was more import and repair based by the time this piece was made. The European style and the timing suggest that this may have been something he imported (perhaps unfinished) and sold in his shop.

See this beauty on display at the museum. Plan a visit: https://willardhouse.org/contact
