⛏️ Diversion Tunnel Contract No. 339
Lackawack, NY | August 27, 1938
What can a photograph of an empty tunnel tell us about the work happening nearly 90 years ago?
This photograph shows the Diversion Tunnel in Lackawack, with inlet rock excavation 15 feet above the invert and ring holes drilled for the first shot in the tunnel.
📸 The photograph was donated by Ray McNamara.
A fascinating look at the early stages of one of the major construction projects that changed the Catskills landscape.

🔥 From the Collection: The Ruins of Hotel Rockwell
What was once a prominent hotel in Monticello was left in ruins after a devastating fire on August 10, 1909.
This historic photograph from the Manville B. Wakefield Collection shows the Ruins of Hotel Rockwell, looking west from the Monticello Post Office.
📸 Over 115 years later, this photograph gives us a glimpse of Monticello just after the fire.
Can you imagine standing in this spot in 1909 and seeing this scene?

🍦 A Sweet Piece of Grahamsville History!
Before ice cream trucks became a familiar sight, August Gunlow was bringing ice cream around Grahamsville with his wagon!
From 1917–1920, Gunlow owned the Ice Cream Parlor and the wagon used to deliver ice cream throughout town. This photograph gives us a glimpse of a local business—and a pretty sweet way to enjoy a treat over 100 years ago!
