Sophie Dannin is an artist and designer based in St. Louis, Missouri. Her practice is shaped by the constraints and possibilities of working with finite materials, embracing limitation as a generative force. Through a patchwork rug methodology, Dannin repurposes deadstock textiles and carpet remnants, eliminating the need for new production while ensuring that each piece remains inherently unique.
Her process unfolds at the intersection of design and fabrication, where decisions are made in real time and guided by available materials. The resulting compositions draw on visual languages rooted in archaeology and earth sciences, evoking stratification, erosion, and the passage of time. In Danninβs work, material scarcity becomes a framework for innovation, yielding pieces that are both resource-conscious and deeply tied to the natural world.
