NBH neither receives on-going financial support from nor is it associated with any religious or other association. It derives its funding from annual memberships, donations and various fundraisers. NBH is governed by a Board of Directors who rely heavily upon a core group of volunteers to carry out its mission. Since its formation, NBH has raised over $130k, the overwhelming majority of which has

been used to preserve the house from destruction, move it across the street and stabilize it from further deterioration.

This antique lectern is the most recent addition to the interior furnishings of the museum. We suspect that something similar would have been used by the families who founded Christiana Lutheran Church in September 1871 and, in March 1872, St. Luke's Reformed Church.

This is the very first photo we obtained of Nathan. It was published in the book Michael Braun of the Old Stone House - His Influence and Descendants. Note that there are other people standing behind him, so we don't have a complete story of the circumstances of this photo.

Please contact us if you have seen the original photo or know someone who may have.

Nathan, his second wife Rosa Agner, their descendants and extended family.

Note the exterior architectural features of the house: shutters on 1st floor right window, doubled lines of paint trim around windows, doors, etc. Apparently this was used for many years as it appears in photos taken years later.

Removal of the wallcoverings answered a lingering question we'd had since beginning the project. That being where were the original stairs to the second floor? (The current stairs were installed in the 1950s.) As you can see from the photos, the stairs rose against the back wall to a landing from which steps turned left to the second floor.

These photos were taken during the reveal of the interior walls. We began by removing the top layer of modern wood paneling that had been affixed over celotex cellulose tiles that were used for insulation. Removal of the tiles revealed different wallpaper patterns in each room. Underneath the wallpaper we found guaze to which the wallpaper had been affixed. The guaze had been affixed to the hand-planed walls with tacks.

Nathan's grandson Paul Brown Fry documented his memory of his grandparent's farm with this drawing. Note that the house had an extension off the back right side, known as an ell. The ell was torn away in order to move the house and was never rebuilt.

This circa 1910 photo is the earliest known photo of the Nathan Brown House. Note the words "Brown Mansion" partially shown at the bottom of the photo. The house was known locally as the "Brown Mansion" because of its grandeur when compared to other homes in the area. Also note the rock well in the left foreground. The child in the foreground is Willie Brown, son of George Brown, son of Nathan.
